I will be choosing near the end.
10 Remaining Players
1.) Zen - Unknown
2.) Aldin - Ulm
Please remember that if you do not upload your pretender by the time alloted, you will forfiet both the nation and place in the game.
This may seem overtly regimented and inflexible. But in order for the game to get underway in a timely manner and remain at it's original intent, it's important to observe them.
Also, please note. If there are massive technical difficulties you have the full right to give me as much verbal abuse as you can http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
For those interested; the Host is on Windows XP OS. For those wondering about innacurate replays.

Truper has changed from Caelum to T'ien Ch'i based on a bug found with Caelum where they are no longer Cold 3 Preference. Please note his Bug report on this feature in other threads.
Side Note: Roleplaying encouraged in the thread in order to provide a fantasy feel to the game. Make Posts with or about the happenings of your turn, or other things you feel appropriate as the game progresses.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Umm... Since I have to leave from my home at almost precisely 12:00 EST for my other hobbies (yes, I know, won't be having them for long because of this game), would it be possible to open the server just like 15 minutes before noon? Prettyplease...
Anyway, sent you my address via email, you should have received it.
And it is Arcoscephale, not 'Arcospheale'. Wars have been waged for lesser reasons...

The Rise of Zenophon
"Hear me!
I am Aeschines the Damned, Orator of Eldregate. Last Historian of Zenophon, Emperor of Ermor. Years were but grains of sand during the days of our glory and our fall. Deep into the forbidden rites did we delve and with it came the price of power that we now bear. But that is ... another story. Tonight I speak of the Rise of Zenophon.
Legions buried beneath the sea of life were forgotten in the world and time with it, forgotten the glory of Ermor. So it was the Zenophon, Lord of Navigaton, Prince of Many Names, King of Kings, Lord of Fear and Trembling sat brooding deep in the bowels of the Underworld. The dead play no less the games political than the living and so it was that opportunity came and sat before Zenophon.
Power. Power as such as could not be imagined rested in the world. Within the world living there were places, places where such power was focused, gathered like dew upon leaves for any to take who could but see. Power perverse that would allow the ascension past these games played by the dead to claim his true heritage and dominion over the dead. Insects they would become and his hand would wrap the world!
Thus it was that Zenophon stepped free of the bounds of the Underworld and followed the scent of power. There, amid the sands of the great desert the power lurked. An eye turned to those who walked upon it for one who would claim it. So it was that Zenophon came and took residence in this land, a citadel rising as a black talon. And I, Aeschines followed. There within the black citadel my emperor Zenophon stretched forth his hand and the dead remembered. They remembered the glory of Ermor and the promises of the past. They came to his call marching to the citadel, servants to the will of the Emperor.
But! Emperor Zenophon was not alone amid these lands, for power as I said is perverse. Chaos follows it like a child lost and wraps it tightly. But we all know it's hunger reaches through everything and so it was not alone that my Lord saw this power or the greed to take it."
The voice lowered and only the sound of echoes remained. The audience waited as Aeschines gave pause to his tale.
Editor's Note: There is no Editor, so these will be extremely rough drafts. If you don't like crude writing, it would be best not to view anything written by me.

General Tacticus
January 18th, 2004, 11:34 AM
In the caves under the God Mountain, the Sacred Spiders are restless. They shuffle and scuffle, they hiss and snap, and even the Black Sorcerers dare not come near them...
Order slowly emerges from this Chaos. The spiders start following a pattern. Round and round they go, following a twisted and crooked path, yet never deviating...
Gradually they speed up, their movements becoming more frenzied, yet never straying from the Path...
And from their midst He rises, He Who Is At The Center, the King of Kings, the Summer Lord; And here He stands in His Glory, Arch-Arachn-General Tacticus, the Patron of Soldiers, the Symbol of Unchallenged Victory.
And as he takes His rightful place in the pantheon of Machaka, seers around the World cringe with fear...

Just a quick suggestion. Since you have 16 signups including the reserve, and I'd make the 17th, why not play in Orania with a full house?
Any reason for particularly wanting to play in the Desert Eye?

Beneath the dark churning waters of the great sea, a new age is nigh at hand. Coral Queens are enthralled by visions bloodred seas and the slaughter of infidels, Mother Guards are sharpening their Glaives and Deep Seers utter prophecies of becoming floods. Nervous whispers echo in the ears of even the smallest Atlantean.
The Great One is returning to us! The Supreme God is gone, and the exile has ended! Chungaat, the mightiest and the most ancient of the Atlanteans is with us once more! Tower-high waves crash on the shores and grey curtains of rain fall. Even the bravest of landlubbers tremble in their dwelling, be it cottage, castle or crystal citadel.
Tremble ye infidels, for the sea is His voice, and the poisonous forest of Coral Spears is but one of His fingers. All bow before the mighty Chungaat!

Hrm. I don't feel comfortable changing to Orania just a few hours before the start of the game. In the future I won't announce the game map until I have a better idea of players.
Unfortunately it will have to stand at 15 on Eye, because people may have built their pretenders in a certain way because of it.
I can put you in the reserve if you like calmon.

The years passed swiftly under the mountain as the Smiths of Ulm plied their craft. It was not a good era, the people often went hungry. There was also no focus - no purpose - no hope. Yet from his forge far to the east, Pug felt the silent cry of his people. Sliding his Anvil into the pouch at his side and slinging his massive hammer, Throg, over his shoulder, Pug moved West. When the people of Ulm saw him, they knew him as the True Smith. They bowed stiff necks and kneeled before their new master. It was the beginning of a new era for Ulm.

After decades of preparations ancient rituals of tremendous power has been performed in the Sunken City. Many illithid died in the process and mind of many more collapsed. Shadows crept in dreams of every sentient being when Void Gate opened and strange being entered underwater halls. Power known only as Faceless arrived.

There are those who claim that the Truth is to be found amongst the stars.
There are those who seek the Answers from the dark caverns and neverending tunnels.
There are those who see what is around us and claim that it is all there is.
They are all correct. And, every one of them, so wrong. As you cannot tell what a diamond is by looking a single facet, it is impossible to determine the Fate of the world by just looking at one part of it.
Thus, with signs of coming dark times clearly visible to everyone, a conclave was held. The astrologers who had read the stars met with strange mystics of deep caves and all-seeing priestesses to finally delve the name of the True God To Be. And the name of that god was Kasadye, and He was to be known as Commander of Truth, Fiend of the Wounding Spear, the Teacher of Philosophy, God of Flames and by many, many other names.
(Of course, there was this one mystic who kept claiming that the world is shaped like a doughnut, but he's been doing that "mystic's cave" thing for far too long now, so please don't mind him)
Once more the hoplites don their armour, charioteers sharpen their scythes and animal handlers train elephants. Arcoscephale is ready for the coming war. Woe to her enemies.

I do not have an Email for Alexi, so if in the first hout he is unable to show and upload his pretender and give me his Email I will move to the Reserve. "It's time!" whispered a dark mysterious voice out from the shadows. Only two huge red reptile eyes lurking from the blurred darkness could tell where the thundering sound came from before it shattered on the moss covered walls and echoed through the dark halls of the ancient C'tis temple. "Yesss, my godnesss!" replied Uzim a novice priest of the Swamp temple. "Everything isss ready for your arravial!" hissed Uzim nervously while bowing honourable. "Gooood!" trample the mysterious voice through the halls...

Tai-sui-xing, most exalted Minister of Rituals, led a grand procession though the winding streets of the Celestial City. The throngs of the people, dressed in their most splendid clothes, who lined the route were unaware of the doubts and anxieties that troubled the Minister, for as always his coutenance was serene, his posture erect, and he radiated the confidence befitting one who had risen through the ranks of the adminstration of the Middle Kingdom to the very pinnacle of power.
"All must go perfectly today" he thought to himself. "Nothing must mar the re-dedication of the Jade Palace, or my ancestors will curse my name, and my shame will be eternal." He paused in his reflections to deliver a blessing to a portion of the crowd whose celebrations seemed even more joyous than the rest, for even in the midst of doubt, he was aware of his responsibilites and his place in the Empire, and he knew that those whom he blessed would not forget the honor. "The rebuilding of the city and of the Palace after the Great Earthquake has gone as well as could be hoped" he thought as he went on, and all the vast procession resumed its stately pace behind him. "Still, who knows if there is not some hidden flaw in the way the Palace is situated or in its form? But considering what I paid to the masters of Feng Shui, there must not be. If there is, I will have their tounges torn out."
With this somehow satisfying thought, he and the procession reached the gates of the Palace, and he delivered the sermon he had been writing for the past three months. Long had he labored upon it, for he must weave together many themes celebrating the history of the Middle Kingdom, praising the labors undertaken by all the people in the rebuilding of the city, and most importantly, reflecting the hope that Yu-huang, the Jade Emperor, would find all their efforts pleasing, and would return to them. His long training served him well, and he delivered his sermon flawlessly, and he could see respect even in the faces of the Imperial Consorts and Eunuchs who stood near, and who had heard many sermons.
It was time now to enter the enter the building, and cut the ribbon which would mark the re-dedication of the Jade Palace, and complete the ceremony. He was handed the Jade Knife, for long a symbol of authority within the kingdom, and even as he severed the ribbon with a single sweeping stroke, a voice spoke from the Dragon Throne behind him. "Thou hast done well, Tai-sui-xing, and all my people, and I am well pleased. I shall this day make you Tu-di of the Celestial City, and your name shall live forever in honor". And Tai-sui-xing whirled about, and on his face was awe, for the throne was not empty, and Yu-huang, the Jade Emperor, Lord of the Stellar Lights, God of Near and Close, Commander of Truth had returned!

There was a time in the past when the world was covered in snow and ice. The mighty giants have ruled the world then. But ages passed, the enthropy have grown and as the world was getting more and more like raging inferno, the power of giants diminished as they have diminished themselves. Man and other nations have emerged in the hot areas and started to grow and expand. Only in the small areas covered with glaciers the giants were still living. But now, the new God have arrived and the God united the giants to lead them in the final battle against the enthropy.

I will be leaving the server on Quickhost for the rest of the day. There is no hurry to do your turns if you do not wish to. But if you wish you can stop by and check in on it.
I will be hosting at 12:00 Noon (EST) regardless of how many quickhosts we do today.
Best of Luck everyone!

If the Last nation submits the turn at 11:55 (EST) causing quickhost and then immediately do a new turn, hosting at 12:00 will cause a stale turn for nearly everybody. And in the Spring of the first year of His reign, Arch-Arachn-General Tacticus sent his thought to distants lands, seeking valliant souls to advance His cause.
And it came that He uttered those memorable words :
"O Goodies ! Elephants !"
Which were duly noted in the Divine Scripture for the edification of later generations...
The text, however, was slightly edited a few years later, and came to read :
And the God said :
"Let the Desert bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life"
and from the Desert the great beasts came, and the God named them Elephants, and they served Him and they worshiped Him.
That text was preserved in the Apocryphs of Haulf the apostat. The official Version of the Words of the Arachn make no mention of elephants whatsoever...

The Beginning of the Scouring
The murmurs died down as Aeschines raised his hand, restless whispers were muted as the grand orator spoke once more.
"Thus it was that Zenophon gathered the legions of the past and set them to scouring the land surrounding the black citadel for what he called 'the source'. Suleiman, Judge of the Fourth Circut commanded the legions and they spread across the land as a plague. Hamlets and hovels were torn and burned while the land sickened and died under that march while animals fled from the corrupting land. The echoes of hollow metal rung loud as church bells at the tide of the past and Zenophon laughed.
As Suleiman reached the borders of the land he was approached by an emmissary. A native dressed in brightly colored feathers and furs stepped nervously to the cold calm of the Judge.
"I ... I bring word from Hannibal, War Chief of the Two Tusk clan. Outsiders you are, as many before. He offers the strength of the Two Tusk clan in trade."
So it was that the native as taken by Suleiman under pain of death to the black citadel and brought before the icy halls of Zenophon. There the native spoke again his offer, though he was but a whisper in that place and Zenophon studied the man.
"You may tell your War Chief this, I will spare his village the anguish of long death if he brings his men to my call. If not, his people will suffer where he does not."
And the native trembled and fled, the cold grip of death not far behind chasing him from the land and to his War Chief.
And it came to pass that Hannibal fled the terror of my Emperor and found solace in the hands of the giantkin. Suleiman marked his judgement as death on the great scales and vowed that if ever in his grip, the War Chief would regret his choice of his skin over his people.
Thus Suleiman was sent to the native village and it was claimed and pillaged, it's blood fed to the earth and not a single soul was spared. And still the source evaded Zenophon and his ire was greatened."

In the first month of The Ascension Wars Queen Fyllia has gathered Jotun leaders to hold a council. Day and night the talk was going, this plan and that were considered and finally Mimer the Scout was announced a prophet. Fres the Herse was sent to go over the land of Jotuns gathering people and gold. And was his success of heroic proportions. On the same day Queen Fyllia requested to find and bring to the army the furry beasts of immensed size. And went scouts all over the land of Jotun looking for the Mammoths. But Mammoths were no more. And were coming scouts one after another to report their failure. And would all efforts fail if not for Hgne the Joker who has recruited a bunch of elephants and covered them in wolf skins.

Pug descended into the mountain, past the armories into the Great Forge. An empty pedestal stood in the center, surrounded by a grand display of the finest metal-working tools he had ever seen. It was time. He placed his anvil upon the pedestal and gathered up the metals and gems of earth with which to create his blade. A month it took, of heavy fires, poundings and quenchings - and when he was done he raised up his sword, Shard, and declared it good.

In the second month of The Ascension Wars the newly acquired mammoths started getting sick and that's when Hgne's trick came out. So it was decided to send elephants immediately in a search of warmer lands with a mission to recruite new subjects for the Queen Fyllia. The path was hard and broken and it was a long while until the group has arrived in the valley high in the mountains. There they witnessed the horrible picture of a band of undead terrifying the small local village. In the glorious battle Jotun army triumphed over the undead and all 520 grateful villagers decided to subject themselves to the rule of Queen Fyllia. Thus, the quest for glory has begun.

Word travels fast among practitioners of the Arcane. When Yu-huang let it be known that he would open the Heavenly Gate so that adepts of barbarian race might learn the Way, the response was so quick that it could only be called magical. Obscuro, the Hidden Master, revealed himself before the Gate, and was admitted. Soon an old man alone upon a donkey was seen riding toward the Celestial City. This proved to be none other than Dagan, the Renegade Sage. From what land he had come he would not say, but he too sought admittance to the Heavenly Gate, and it was granted. He came not only to learn, but also to teach. Woe to those who would challenge the ascendency of Yu-huang, for the lore of T'ien C'hi grows by the day, and they shall meet adepts of power, that will scatter their armies like chaff in the wind!

Lo, the Legions of the Deep marched forth under the glorious command of our most holy Coral Queen, who henceforth is to be known as the First General & Prophetous Victor of the Second Reign of Chungaat's Dominance! The heathen tritons clung to their false ways and were made to submit. The dead on both sides will be honored as the first of many sad yet necessary sacrifices, and their children will salute them as martyrs. Such is the kindness of Chungaat's wisdom.

In the first weeks of His reign Commander of Truth surveyed the spreading of His worship with joy. Inhabitants of provinces all around the great city of Arcoscephale began worshipping Him and even the land reformed to His image. Yet there was a place nearby whose inhabitants hadn't seen the light. This must not be, decided Kasadye and set forth to enlighten the inhabitants of Kratas about the True God To Be.
Unlike others claiming the divine throne, Kasadye did not hide behind tall walls or in ancient forges. He was in the spearhead of the first of Arcoscephaelian conquests, and the world trembled before His might. As soon as the people of Kratas saw His true might they became one of the most fervent followers of the Teacher of Philosophy.
And the glorious victory was not left unnoticed by the world as a whole. Now Kasadye stands grandest among leaders of any fame and people inspired by His example flock to fight for Arcoscephale. One of the most noteworthy of these is Anthromachus the Hero, whose previous deeds are known thorought the land.
The first signs of foreign pretenders are seen, an omnious dominion spreading in the northern lands. As it is, the newly appointed prophet-priestess Anemoreia was assigned a squad of warriors and sent to investigare whether the nearby pretender was a dire threat.

It should be noted in the Annals of Time that Pug was not, perhaps, the most intelligent of the Pretenders to arise during the Ascention Wars. After forging his great sword Shard, Pug left the forge to claim the fealty of nearby lands. It wasn't until the battle lines were drawn that Pug realized he had left Shard in the forge... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

The Beginning of the Scouring (Part 2)
"Thus it was that in his ire Zenophon rose and left his citadel. The trickle of power flowing in the land did little to sate his thirst and he went abroad. The land cried out under his step and where his hand touched the earth bled. Far and wide did his travels take him.
Land after land he traveled. Behind him a mound of dead rose and his grip strengthened. Men, women and children fled his coming and his wrath was great as that power evaded him. Servants clothed in black found and spoke secret whispers within his ears of the natives that surrounded these lands. Many things did they speak and Zenophon grew pensive.
"Perhaps these others, these pretenders know of the land and it's places of power"
And so Messages were given, tied to the ribs of loyal couriers and delivered were his inquiries. Much was learned and it was in a land of pure and plenty that Zenophon recieved word of Suleiman. The loyal Judge had as directed marched on the lands surrounding the Black Citadel and too, found nothing of this power his Emperor had so desired. Plague followed each step of the evergrowing legion and captured painbearers spoke softly of the land and sea surrounding.
Ever watching the eyes of the Underworld turned towards Zenophon. Memories stirred and some wished to taste the power of the past with time unchained and canted the long oaths of loyalty and Zenophon was pleased."

Mardagg, the allmighty leader of the daemonic Abysian Nation, was not surprised as the news from the southern border reached him.
The first neighbour has been discovered,an official border has been established by the other pretender.
Rumors of a small but very strong army, lead by a powerful pretender, spread throughout the nation.
The people of Abysia only showed respect to the fiercest and strongest warriors. And this being the reason why Mardagg became their leader, the inhabitants now also showed respect to their new neighbour.
Therefore peace was an option,as long as the friend/enemy/neutral neigbour
would not dare to expand further to the north or,even worse,to the northwest.
The first bunch of provinces had been taken without a single loss, the military strength as well as the economy could be considered as very good, therefore Abysia would also be ready for war,if forced to.

While Pug was in the field chopping off barbarian heads and generally having a good time, his senior advisors were meeting:
"He is too reckless, we must counsel him to stay at..."
"He is our Master! Who shall dare counsel against him?"
"But there is no support. Perhaps he triumphs against weak foes, but the reports say the next land he wants to try is..."
The chamberlain approaches, "Pardon my Lords, but there is a mercenary named Magnus at the door of the keep. He requests audience."
The advisors looked around the table at one another shrewdly. Then the senior advisor turned to the chamberlain, "Oh yes, show him in. By all means show him in!"

Months followed each other and hot summer turned to fall. During these times Arcoscephaelian empire grew without bounds, led by its valiant Pretender God. But as His empire grew, Kasadye saw that He had to sacrifice more and more of His time to listen to the reports that just kept coming. Maybe it was best, for in the prevous' months skirmish He had suffered an unlucky wound that still taxed His immense strenght. This had been only expected, for glory is not bought cheaply, and Priestesses well versed in the healing arts had already been called for.
Mystics had probed many provinces for ancient sites, yet none had been found. This was unfortunate, but there would be many more to search. Meanwhile, scouts brought reports of Arcoscephale's neighbours, one after another. The scouts told of groves of Pangaea, not so well hidden as the woodland creatures would hope, pinched between impassable mountains and vast seas in one direction. They also had found out that Man had already begun building temples in their coastal provinces. And between those nations, the undead hordes of Ermor advanced.
Soon there would be no more provinces to expand, and the all-out war would be sure to start. But that would be a worry for coming months, not now, decided Kasadye and ordered yet another attack on a province led by some local rabble.

The trek over the mountains was long and hard, but villagers were eagerly meeting emissaries from Jotunheim and joining the growing empire. Finally, the mountains has ended and Jotun party has descended on a fertile and densely inhabited plains. People were meeting Jotuns cheerfully, but no amount of persuasion could convince them to abandon their old gods and join the glorious kingdom of Queen Fyllia. Finally, the party had to go back home. Over the strenous trek back over the mountains all elephants have perished, but the giants made it home safely. Meanwhile, the rumours have been coming of a land inhabited by very warlike barbarians, just across the straits. The army had been assembled promptly and send there to bring the order and wise rule in those lands.

Trudging along the plains, the Elephant advanced. Patting its neck, Hannibal encouraged him: “Just a little farther, we’re almost there”.
They came at Last to the warm lands of the Machaka. Hannibal was promptly led to the Great God himself, and kneeled reverently.
“Great God, I beg you to find a place for my poor elephant in your warm lands. The evil Jotuns tricked us, and all his brothers died in the snow. Gladly will we fight for you in your warm lands”
And the God acquiesced.
“You have erred, O my servant, but now your are back, and we will find you a place. And the evil Jotuns shall be punished, indeed, I have prepared a deadly trap for them. Should they attack, they will find themselves quickly taken by deadly diseases.”
Just as he was saying this, a messenger rushed in, and panting, delivered his message : “My Lord, the Jotuns attack !”
And the God said to Hannibal :
“Go and find my commander. Tell him to begin plan J”
And so it was done…

After converting the barbarians into the true faith, our party kept advancing along the coast. The land went down and down, the fine evergreen forests have gradually changed into oaks and maples which in their turn got replaced by rain forests. Tremendous heat and foul vapors started to take their toll. For months our party has not met a living soul and finally Tjodvig the Jarl stopped, turned to ice peaks on the left, looked at the thousand feet cliffs mounting behind the forest and then he told to his soldiers: "We are going up before the heat kills us. Many would say that the climb is impossible, but we'll do it!"
Few weeks have passed and though the climb was hard, Jotuns feel invigorated and the spirits were rising. But as they reached the final vertical wall they saw few strange warriors throwing stones at them. Being at such disadvantegous position Tjodvig has commanded retreat. A council has been taken and it was decided to continue along the high ridge running parallel to the seashore. After the long travel the ridge went on decline, and the land became more habitable. Finally, our party came to the place where the strange warriors with the spiders were fighting against something remotely resembling lobsters. Jotuns did their best to prevent bloodshed and convince fighting sides to resolve their conflict peacefully, but unfortunately both armies has fled when the Jotuns approached them trying to start negotiations.
This unfortunate misunderstanding has been brought to our attention, and therefore since now, only persons of smaller size shall be recruited as missionaries.

The Commander of Truth watched silently as mercenary regiment of small hoburgs scurried off towards north. They had been of a great help securing the western border of Arcoscephaelian Empire, but had now used up their usefullness. Let someone else pay for them for a change. Kasadye himself had just slain his hundreth enemy, a score yet to be beaten by anyone else. Arcoscephale would prevail, even if he'd have to ensure it single-handedly.
As number of provinces without firm governship dwindled month after month it was time to survey the situation. To her east, vast sea limited the march of hoplites and the other side of a passable narrow land strip reeked of death. Lands due north were scorching under pale sun even in winter already, and people coming from south kept telling of hardness of mere thinking in those lands.
And east... well, from His vantage point at the hills near impassable mountain range Teacher of Philosophy could see all the way to the other side of his Empire and beoynd. All the way to plains where nothing would anymore grow. The undead horde of Ermor had spread like a wildfire, and already scouts reported of new citadels erected in the wasteland. No indication of scourge's direction had been received, so perhaps this was not His most immediate problem. Perhaps...
...at that instant, a messenger from distant lands appeared with interesting news.

The Beginning of the Scouring (Part 3)
"Here it was that Zenophon was filled with the pride of knowledge. All around him came the scream of dead and dying and his reach grew long. The dead and living, now thralls to the dark power of greed began the great work of the material. Citadels rose like the jagged blackened teeth of a great beast from below the world. Temples were constructed and the black mass was born. From lands afar did they flock, these living wishing the promise of the dead. Deep in the graveyards did they travel and the dead rose in greater numbers, howling destruction at their service.
The nation of Man had grown, it's monks and men of faith to the south kept to their land and so Zenophon was pleased. His was the council of wisdom for he sought the power and not the lands of flesh and bone.
Far against the horizon the sky was littered with dying stars and those who would watch. And elder people that memories stirred within the age of Ermor. They too were left without thought of such flesh and blood.
Those who breathed water were too, left without thought. For their home beneath the wave did not tempt Zenophon with promises of power.
The Last was the wilds of nature. Ever did things growing abhor those things wrapped in death's comfort. And so it was that the children of Nature kept from Zenophon the secrets of the land and he was angered.
The call was given and the hordes began their path. The grind and twisting of innumerable bones and the whispers of souls from the past formed the ranks of the legions of Ermor. As it had ages before they marched with the pride and strength of countless lives.
The drums rang now and the ground blackened. These halfmen would be driven from their groves and their sacred places within the earth. Zenophon was pleased and his search continued and his rise was all encompassing."

The following is an excerpt from the High Chronicles of the Second Reign of Chungaat's Dominance, as recorded by the Deep Seer Phun Goo of the Third Spire of the Coral Tower.
"It did not take long for the Legions of the Deep to conquer all the seas close the the original home of the Great One, though a society of Amber Clan Tritons persisted in their attempts at resistance, and thus it came to be that the Amber Clan was ever after known as the lesser Reviled, and their lot will ever be one shame and disgrace unto the end of this world.
Once this had been done, our proud nation found that the Greater Causeway had been blocked by some past cataclysm, and to pass onto the lower seas a stretch of land must crossed. Though there were a few minor conflicts with the surface dwellers, they deserve no mention in this High Chronicle.
On the other side a terrible discovery was made, and a mere month later the First War of the Second Reign, a great war of liberation and glorious battles fought against the ancient enemy, began."

The message had spoken of a breeding war between Man and Ermor (yet this could not be confirmed, for the ruler of Man accepted messengers no more). And soon, scouts brought Messages of battles in the northern lands where the undead slaughtered the inhabitants of Pangaea. It was clear, no-one would be safe from the onslaught of Ermor.
As a sign of things to come, a small detachment of priest was sen to conquer remaining independent province between Ermor and Arcoscephale, filled with ghouls. This was equivalent of teasing a sleeping dragon, and the effect was quickly seen. Messages came from all around, telling of Ermor trying to sway Arcoscephale's neighbours against her, of a possible peace between Pangaea and Ermor, and finally, a clear statement that the scourge would march to Arcoscephale next.
The undead massed to her borders, and Arcoscephale stood against the darkness alone. Pretty words came to nothing when times were dire, for neighbours both south and north were nowhere to be seen. As the undead threw themselves against the least defended border province, the few present priest were quickly overwhelmed by an army numbering to fifth hundred.
The first victory was that of the scourge's. But Arcoscephale's hoplite army was mostly unhurt and her god yet to reveal His might to the coming horde, so the war was far from over.

He looked back down at his boots. They were very nice boots. Very nice, purposeful boots. Fightin' boots. He stood up and called out to the army camped below, "Muster up men of Ulm! It's clobberin' time!"

It was over. Our armies scattered, the holy forests in flames. The god has been unheard of since a catastrophic failure to break through the enemy lines. Soon, the Last defences would be destroyed, and the lands torched by the fiery lava demons.

I set pangea on computer control with 2 provinces and almost no units left. It was fun to play with you, hopefully I'll do better next time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

It proved to be the right decision,to attack Pangaea sooner than originally planned.
As soon as the Messages of the war between Ermor and the nature dwellers reached Mardagg,he did order the full scale attack, directly heading for the capital. For this case, the damned legion, mercenaries with the power lying in their numbers, had been the perfect addition to the strong Abysian Troops.
The peace between Ermor and Pangaea did come too late for Oratha then, the god of Pangaea.
With the capital already besieged, there was no other option than trying to break it.2 Battles followed,in which the Armies of Pangaea desperately fought for freedom, but it was hopeless.Even though Abysia lost the damned legion completely(luckily there had been a Blood-skilled Abysian commander with the army,as the leader of the damned legion was burned to dust by his own troops at the very beginning of the battle:) ),there had been nearly 0 losses of regular troops.
The centaurs and minotaurs had been slaughtered by the morningstars of the Abysian army.
The remaining Troops of Pangaea were now scattered throughout the land and those unlucky enough, were trapped in between the newly aquired lands of Abysia to the west of the capital...together with Oratha, the Mother of Lions.
These troops to the west, tried the break through to the south...and lost again.
It was then, when Oratha tried the heroic attempt to conquer a province on her own as a Last try to survive.Unfortunately she did retreat, after her Lions did rout...heading to where she came from...but this province now belonged to Abysia.
With no land left to retreat to,she obviously decided to commit suicide:)
"what a strange end" Mardagg thought ,who at the meantime slaughtered the small stealthy army, which dared to besiege one of the Abysian Castles.
But still, even after their god was gone, there had been resistance in the remaining few provinces, even though it wasnt something to worry about for the Abysian troops.
Complete victory was now 100% sure and just in reach.
---
Thanks and respect to Mivayan, who played Pangaea until the very end ,being in huge disadvantage due to the attack from Ermor.

The Demon's Detail - Part 1
Thus it was that Zenophon rose to power. With such power the ties of humanity were thin and wavering. Arcosephale, home of the ancient mystics and elder nation rife with power was taken. The storm of Ermor grew and struck with a ferocity that drove back the armies of old.
Provinces fell under the mighty hand of Zenophon's army and Etimmu reported they had drawn deep into the land. Over 500 of the old legions had spread through the land of Arcoscephale. The Moloch who had tainted the minds of the mystics gathered his hoplites and his elephants and hid in provinces of temples to their pretender god.
The massive bulk of humanity was slow and the capital of Arcosephale was taken, it's castle surrounded and it's land burned. The mighty doors of the fortress were ripped from their mooring and it was left defenseless while the nation's might sat in a nearby province. Already the second half of the might of Ermor, another 500 strong was gathered near the former borderline when news reached Zenophon's ear.
The Ulmites had tried their hand, and played their cards, perhaps too early. They stepped into the lands of Ermor with their pretender-king Pug the Cyclops. His hand was short as his forces were weak. A few defenders of the province south of the capital were swept away, but knowledge was gained.
Already his army were starving, their heart was weak and the might of Ermor were the undisputed kings of fear. So the second army of legions did not go to crush finally the lands of Arcoscephale, but turned to these Ulmish invaders. Would they be so foolish as to starve in the lands of Ermor? Would they be so foolish that the Wailing Consorts would destroy and rout them before they had even a chance to wield their weapons?
Time would tell and the ghouls within the lands of Ermor stirred, for never had a fortress fallen when under their charge and this day was no different.

The world is round!
- exclaimed Tjodvig after the initial excitement of the meeting with the Frej's party.
It was months and months since Tjodvig failed attempt to pacify other warring nations. When the heat finally became unbearable, Tjodvig has commanded to build the rafts and cross the sea instead of going through the deadly jungle vapors. Few months later the party has landed in much cooler place and headed south. The landscape was harsh and supplies scarce, hunger and deceases hunted Jotuns, but after lhe long track strange semi-barbarian horsemen have been met. They were very war-like and refused to let Tjodvig's party to pass in peace. After all peaceful negotiations have failed, Jotuns forced their way through scattering enemies, but many Jotuns have perished too. The local peasants were welcoming Jotuns liberating their land and many took Jotuns faith. After few weeks of rested Jotuns continued their travel South in a good spirit. It wasn't long when they came to the formidable fortress towering over the narrow strip of the land between 2 seas. But scouts reported that the fortress was being sieged. Under the cover of the night, Jotuns were moving silently, hesitant whether to talk, sneak or fight. It was then, when Tjodvig heard roaring laughter from the enemy camp and he exclaimed - "It can not be true", recoginzing the voice of Frei, his old comrade who has stayed in Jotunheim when Tjodvig departed 2 years ago.
Tjodvig let himself be known and there was no end to Frei's surprise. A lot of ale was drunk and a lot of stories have been told that night. Goddess Fyllia herself have arrived in the morning and under here wise leadership combined forces successfully stormed the fortress dealing final defeat to the lizardmen of C'tis.
On receiving news in Jotunheim wise Nornas and Seithkonur were doubting warriors words saying that it could not have been, because Tjodvig was travelling to the South while Frei was moving North. For a long time they would be debating the problem if the Goddess Fyllia in her wisdom had not divined that the world must be round.
Thus a new page in the history of Jotuns was turned.

The server has been upgraded to 2.08. Please upgrade before you play your turn to try to avoid any weirdness.
Report any weirdness on this thread for Version changes. I have no idea what may or may not happen. Hopefully nothing.

Zen, I think that wasnt a good idea because of the huge Jotunheim/Utgard bug in 2.08...as far as I know,Alexti plays Utgard:(
February 16th, 2004, 08:40 PM
Yes I just noticed. I was on the Boards, I just came home for lunch long enough to look at a few emails saying it was changed. I will have to bring down the server and reinstall Dom2 and patch to 2.06.
It's hard to imagine that every time they patch they totally fubar at least one nation. Hopefully we can petition them for a quickfix and not have to rely on mods.
Server will be down until I can reinstall Dom2

Thanks Zen, modifying the strategy to work around the new bug would be rather hard at this stage.
February 17th, 2004, 06:02 AM
If I had known that it completely unhinged one nation I wouldn't have patched it. A mistake on my part to trust the double and triple checking of the patch (I still love you IW and Shrapnel).
The server is up.
I am utilizing the 2.08 Patch as my base dom2.exe while I have a dom206.exe that I use for the pre-2.08 Version.
If there is any weirdness/crazy stuff, please send me an Email or something, along with your turnfile so that maybe we can submit it to IW for any bugs that may be found.
Even though Kris suggested it still works perfectly fine, I don't want anyone to lose out on any part of the game because of technical reasons.
I will set the Host to Quickhost until Wednesday at 12:00 Noon which will then be a forced turn (For the delay in the server being down, I had to work late tonight and wasn't able to go home to reinstall).
I apologize again for my eagerness with the patch.
February 17th, 2004, 10:20 PM
Someone has sent in a turn or played with 2.08 instead of 2.06. Thus the game has been corrupted to 2.08. I can't change it back to 2.06. So I vote in the meantime we wait for the patch before we resume as Jotunheim will have their nation and playstyle signficantly impacted by the change. If the patch isn't quickly forthcoming and there is no way to work around, then the game is essentially dead, or at least Jotunheim is crippled through no fault of his own, which I consider unfair to the extreme.
If you wish I will set up a poll to see what the players would like to do.

I don't think that stopping the game because of one crippled nation is a good option, so if the fix won't arrive within next day or two, the game should proceeed. I will try to do something without Seithkonur. Maybe I can convert to the blood path. Also, I wonder what will happen to the items equipped before the patch. Losing a dozen of Skull Mentors would magnify impact from the loss of Seithkonur http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I don't know, I'm trying to pin Johan down on if that is the case. I'm also asking him if the computer generated turns would be the cause. But I don't see as they would. If we can I will make a backup and we can try to funk around with it. I apologize for the problems everyone. :/

Don't worry I'll be around to kill that Cyclops.

The horrible things have happened in the Jotun's land. When the Queen Fyllia issued the call for Seithkonur to aid you in the ascension wars, several have answered the call, but in the lab they proved to be completely incapable to use their minds (unfortunately, they haven't learned how to use their extremities either). Long worked wise men of Jotuns trying to solve the puzzle, and finally a young Skratti divined that the disaster was a side effect of the powerful spell, cast in the other world by a formidable mage specialized in the school of "programming" unknown in our realms.
And had no choice Queen Fyllia, but to order armies to retreat and hold our fortification in the hope that the spell will wear out soon.

I have a series of AAR's that I'm going to post after I get done with my current war (whatever it's outcome). (As I need as much of an advantage as I can get with the current #'s).

What is going on with this game? Server is not responding, Zen send no explanation but he is posting on Dom2 forum.

The game is up and has been all along, the other games (including a local and a non-local one) have no problems. I am not currently at the server location, but I am doing a test with Alexti to see if there are some unknown issues.
I forget to check this forum very often. When I get to my Email and check the server I will have at least some answers.
