The website was a little unclear. It indicated you can play over the internet but it seemed to indicate only with only one other player? Is that correct? or what is the maximum number of players that can play over the internet and where are the games played (ie. WON, the Zone, etc)?

Yes just two players. As far as where it is played, that is up to the player.
