Yo, the walking things. Why do they get slaughtered in combat against tanks? What is there purpose? Are they artilary?

It depends on the type of mech.

The standard RAB has two machine guns. Others are equipped with anti-tank missile launchers,
and some are equipped with mortars. The recon Version is unarmed. Treat them as a light infantry platoon when you play. Going head-to-head against tanks is not a good idea unless they are well supported by other units.

They are the equivalent of infantry
Crunchies are useful sometimes
