Hi Tim,
Since you haven't answered my emails, I thought I'd post here and say hello from an old friend. I'm glad to see things are going well at your company and hope to see you again some day on the road.

DMClark (Mike), don't feel bad. Tim doesn't answer my emails, either!

Laughs, it's tough to be so busy. I guess I'm going to have to sit down one day and write the story of how Tim decided to get into game development, his mysterious disappearance, and re-emergence in North Carolina.

Mike, You are right, it must be extremly tough being do busy. Stories, oh goodie, do tell. I am ALL ears (well eyes actually). But I would love to hear/see the story!
Hello, Tim. Nice to see you. Tim, don't you think Mike's story would make a great item for the <font color=#9933CC>LURK REPORT</font>? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif That is assuming it is publishable, of course! Wow, an exclusive.

laughs.....I'll start writing offline and see how many of the details can be recovered. The common theme of the day was "we gotta get a job", and "damn, this 386 is coooool".

Man I swear a 386 could run, maybe solitaire, if you overclocked it.

My 386 ran OS/2 and a bunch of other stuff. But it *was* a 386/40. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Mike, any story about how Tim created Wages of War would be a great read for me. Tim's my hero for making that game.
Tim, I hope you aren't disappointed that I only played the tactical part of that game, not the business part. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

It's even more amazing considering the fact that he had to learn the programming skills first. I remember when the first land diagrams were being made, and the character identities were being created, and the turn-based code was being perfected.....in a 2 bedroom apt. in Greenville, SC. It was a lot for one person.
He had an idea, and it's brought him to where he is today.

DMClark (Mike), It's even more amazing considering the fact that he had to learn the programming skills first. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I take that to mean, he was not originaly a programmer. Is that right?

Tim, Yea, self taught. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Now, that is very impressive! Now that I can, I don't like to... <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">OK, now I understand better. Since you don't like it, you needed to start a company so everyone else could do the programming!

Actually, to join Tim, i'm a self-taught programmer as well. Started in C and Pascal when I was young, progressed to C++ later, and then moved to the "Visual" Languages when Windows started taking over. Now I use both Visual C++ and Visual Basic fairly well.
Well, I did go to school as well for programming for awhile later on, but I learned more on my own about how real world programming works than I ever did in school. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Derek, Actually, to join Tim, i'm a self-taught programmer as well. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Wow! I am impressed, again. Anyone that teachs themselves and reaches your's and Tim level of success, deserve a large pat on the back. So, consider your back's, 'Patted'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I learned more on my own about how real world programming works than I ever did in school. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Isn't that the truth. Schools seem to have some barrier, that prevent them teaching what will help in real life! They supply the knowledge, just no application of it. It has always seemed odd, to me.
