As the subject line says what are they? My impression from the demo is that my system is woefully inadequate. (A 1Ghz PIII with 256 MB ram and WinME) I updated my video drivers and got the latest DirectX and the game runs so slow it is basically unplayable. By slow I mean the speed of the mouse in the main ship moving window. It is so slow and jerky it is impossible to play and have fun.
So has anyone successfully played the game with this type system?

Was it just the mouse? Because if it is, that's probably a bug and not your system being up to snuff.

Well no it was not just the mouse. everything seemed slow when the ship movement window was on. I went through a warp and the graphics came on painfully slow. (I also got stuck in the warp being tossed from one side to the other but that is another storey)
I think I had all the options turned down to low.

what kind of video card are you using? What resolution? Color bit depth?

Unless your video card is really slow, that's pretty odd. My system isn't that much faster than yours (1.4 GHz, but I'm running XP, which eats more resources) and I get 50 FPS easy with everything all the way up. I'd think you should be getting at least 30.

Getting more RAM could help. Close all other background tasks.

I run the game with a celeron 466 and a voodoo 3. the game has around 10 fps in heavy screen and 20 on normal screen. all the graphics are at the minimum. For me, these are acceptables playing conditions.

My guess it's some odd combination of drivers and hardware configs. I would get with Aaron and see if he can help you sort it out.

Well I just tried the game on my laptop which is a 1ghz celeron also with 256Mb of ram but with Win XP and it worked great. I suspect this is yet another problem I can thank Mr Gates for and the wonderfull piece of crap that is WinME. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Argh, WinME... downgrade to 98 or something. Tell you what though, once you go XP it is great, very stable system and everything. Just get used to the idea of needing more RAM. (I have 512, and I am thinking of getting a gig or so...)
