View Full Version : Mission difficulties/possible bug

Well, I seem to have encountered a little bit of a difficulty with the freighter escort mission in the demo. First I made enough money to upgrade to a Mark III Cruiser, then I headed off to get my mission briefing and start the mission. I get there, fight off a lot of the pirates attacks, find the freighter, fight off some more attacks, never leave the ***** alone, and then, to my eternal surprise, a message pops up saying that I failed to protect the Baumont from destruction. I don't understand this because it's sitting there right in front of me. No hull damage, only some minor shield damage. Would this be a bug, or am I doing something wrong?? Help, please??

I wish I could help. I still haven't been able to survive that mission. Maybe I need a few more experience levels...

In that particular mission, you are supposed to kill all the pirates, rather than simply protect the ship.

Sneaking past the pirates doesn't quite "send a message" like a slaughter of your enemies would http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Plus, you don't really want to leave the ship alone to go hunt pirates. Freighters seem to have an annoying habit of trying to get themselves blown to pieces by pirates if you leave them alone. But in any case, thanks for the help http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I agree that the wording could be altered to make it clearer.
Does the demo allow you to change the entry for it?

But it really doesn't matter anymore 'cause now I know what I have to do!! (blow hell out of some pirates http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) And that's always lots of fun.

After hearing that, prehaps you are saposed to fail it, as the guy gives you a mission to do 3 mercinary missions if you do so. I keep fialing it because it runs ahed when im trying to enggage the damn pirates, At least thats why I thought I failed it.

(I reduced the cost of a Mark III Cruiser down to 1 and raise the tonnage to 7000 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) To make a long story short, I went to the system, didn't even bother finding the freighter, then went a-huntin' for the pirates. I blew three of them away from one particular clan, and that won the mission for me. (only because the time ran out and the freighter was still safe.)

PS: They still give you 3 mercenary missions to do whether you fail the escort mission or not. Only the message your Freeport Contact gives you changes.

ummmm, how did you make the moddifacations anyway? when I etdit the data files when I go to load the save it says there was a violation and wont load. And how exactly is a destroyer mark I able to kill 1 cruser and 2 destroyers, I can hardly halndle a cruiser at a time.

In this case, go into the campaign folder, then into campaign 0. To change the cost of ships, go into the "Main_PurchaseShipsPlayer". Go to the whatever ship you want to change the price of, then change the "ship buy credit value". To change the tonnage, just look in the same file, just change the "Base hull tonnage" to whatever you want.

I don't think you are supposed to be able to handle three ships at once in a destroyer. My suggestion is to make enough money before you take that mission to upgrade your ship, either in components, or upgrade your ship size. Otherwise you won't stand a chance.

Hope this helps.
