can someone explain what the two ranges mean, please?

As it says above the chart it's Range over Damage. The top numbers are range to target in LS and the bottom numbers are the damage the weapon does after travelling that distance.

ah. now it makes much more sense. except doesn't PPB say 180 for farthest? i'm pretty sure i've never seen a beam weapon fire farther than at most 130.

PPB's have a maximum range of 100 ls in the stock campaigns. The damage chart often goes further than the weapon's maximum range because it shows range increments in multiples of 10, anything beyond 100 will always be 0 for the PPB though.

Actually if I'm reading the files right, a maxed-out PPB will have a maxium range of 125ls. Earlier levels might not go that far because they 'run out of damage' before there.

Weapon ranges have a scaling factor that is seperate from the map scaling factor in the CampaignData file. The stock campaigns use a value of 2.0 (the base max range for the PPB is 50).

and i just remembered that it's the tackyon cannon i've been firing...i think. not that it makes much difference. thanks for the explanation.
