"Escort" missions

I'm very confused how to complete escort missions. I've protected the ship from all comers, but when the time runs out on the mission it says I failed.

Does that mean I have to hunt down all enemies in the system? How do I know who wants to kill the transport when there's like 3 different sets of hostiles?

How do I know who wants to kill the transport when there's like 3 different sets of hostiles?<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">One set will be identified with a "[some name] Clan" when you to a sensor lock on them. Those are the guys you have to hunt down.

FYI to whoever is doing the patch - This is something that should be made clearer in the initial mission window...
