Hi
on my ship i currently have 2 lvel 15 point defence cannons, I was wondering do i need to have 2? they both seem to fire at the same thing then miss the second missile, so I was wondering is it good enough just having one?
Thanks

Well, that's a matter of opinion. Personally, I have 4 PD cannons on my ship, but I'm paranoid. One probably would work just fine. The only advantage I can think of is that with more PD cannons, your reload rate won't matter as much, as you will always have one cannon ready to fire.
It's a bit of bad design that all your PD cannons will fire at the same torpedo until it is destroyed. It'd be a lot better if they'd each target a different torpedo. As this is the case, one should do, but if you want to be totally safe, two is great.

I have 3 PD right now. I find that when I have two Xiati battleships firing broadsides at me, and I'm running around just barely outrunning the torpedoes, that the PD cannons all fire at once...and destroy all the torpedoes that were lined up nicely :-p. So yeah, it kinda stinks that they don't target different warheads but the advantage is that you can destroy lots of missile weapons that are close together.

I am running 5 PD units. 1 on each corner, or as close to the corners as the hull slots allow and 1 in the center of the back. I've observed that torps all seem to be heat seekers as they do their best to hit in the engine region, thus 3 at the back seems to handle almost all incoming torps.

So the placement of the PDC in the hul determines where the weapon shoots from? Jeeze...wish I knew that earlier http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And here I was sticking one in the Inner Hull slots to ensure its safety when for maximum effectiveness I should be putting it on the corners...

Unlike real missiles, they make no attempt to lead you, just to follow your manuvers.
This gets really fun when you mod in directed torps, which take time to turn.
