Keep playing the demo?

I just ordered the full game, but I'm wondering if there's any reason to keep playing the demo while I'm waiting for it? (aside from idle fun)

Can you transfer a character or ship from the demo campaign into the ones in the full game?

Not by default, no. It should be possible to edit the game to do that if you really want to though.
