Is there any interest? I'm guessing it would probably be about 1 Gig in size total and I would need someone to host. If someone could tell me the total size of all the graphic files... multply them by 7 and that's about what we'd be looking at... maybe more maybe less.
So far my editing results (just in the demo) have been superior... and I can crank out a file a minute.
Keep in mind, I do not have the game yet and am really poor right now.
NOTE: I've taken the editing to extreme file and density sizes and had almost no slowdown on my machine, but of course I have a really good system:
* OS: Win XP Home SP1
* Directx 9.0B
* Processor: AMD 64 3200+
* Motherboard: Asus K8V Deluxe
* Bios Rev: Version 1004
* Memory: 1 Gig Kingston KHX 3500 CL2
* Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Cat 3.10
* Sound Card: SB Audigy 2 (latest non-beta drivers)
* Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Surround System
* Sound settings utilizing 5.1 speakers and EAX 3
* Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u - 22”
* Pioneer DVD Drive

ALL of the stock data files? Ship textures and everything? If you can fix the backgrounds that might be worthwhile but downloading a Gig of stuff is gonna be a bit much for most people. How about trying just for the improved backgrounds for now? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I totally agree. I'm on Dialup, and downloading a full Gig would take WAY too much time. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 75-100 hours.

How about you break it down into different categories-- Planets, Landscapes, starfields, etc. Smaller downloads, and people can grab the files they're most interested in.

Any more exact idea on how big individual pieces would be, or if that was even possible? It might be doable to host some stuff, but at 1GB for the whole thing it would burn out my entire service after a few dozen downloads...

I could bump my provider up for a quareter (3 months) - out that would cost me about $125 x 3.
It could handle than bandwidth The entire game is doable,,,,,,,,,,, but we could also burn CD with the data and mail them for a small fee.
I still need someone to buy the game for mne however. My spending has been sqaughed until this wub deal comes up.

I have web space available on my server to host, and can host to P2P networks too. I'll host updated graphics to save my ship from getting lost in the stars that warp around my shields. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Msg me privately for contact information regarding the website, japinard, but you'll have to get the game yourself.

1 gig???
Thats a tad too big I think, maybe just doing the most requested first and working your way thro, trying to keep the images as small as possible
Also, I would suggest using Fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/) to host the files
Any smaller files I will host over at PXStudios

I would suggest you stay as far away from Fileplanet as possible... that is a horrible, horrible service. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif
