I have the demo Version of the game and it crashes after you go through the start new game steps. It crashes after it creates maps maybe after you enter in your ship and captain name.

I read through a few of the Posts related to this and tried a few of the suggestions listed there:

I tried to rename my music folder under the starfury demo folder, and that did not work.

I goto "Windows Update" and it says all of my drivers are up to date.

I tried to install the StarFury patch, but I guess it won't let you patch the demo, so that does not work.

I am running XP, service pack 1 with all the latest updates. My sound card is a Creative SB Live! Series (WDM), as opposed to WMD, but you won't find any of those....

So, I am stuck right now...

Any ideas??

One suggestion: In the initial game menu, you have the "Setup" option. Click on that, then go to the option called "Video Memory Usage" Change it to "Safe". That MIGHT help you out.

I just tried Safe mode as per the suggestion, but I still get the same error.

You could try changing the Video Mode to Windowed. That might help you. Also making sure ALL your drivers are up to date, including the sound card drivers, video drivers, etc.

Note that Windows Update really isn't useful for drivers except the very basic ones. You need to check your video card drivers (www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com, (http://www.ati.com,) depending on which you have) and sound drivers yourself.

No luck with Windowed mode either.

I am not sure how to check if I have the latest sound and video drivers, so I think I will just pass on this game and wait for JA2: Wildfire to come out.

Oh well....

Just download and install the latest ones available from the manufacturer's site.
That's the easiest way to check http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

HOWEVER, if you have a laptop, go to the laptop manufacturer. Laptops tend to be special.
