I've increased the maximum speed of most of the smaller ships speed to about 8.0, it means they can go up to 8,000. You can do this on the files Main_PurchaseShipsPlayer.txt and the Main_PurchaseShipsEnemy.txt. Next, I changed the fighter engine so that they can be mounted on any ship. All you do is open up Main_Components.txt, and find the Fighter Engine component. Look for where it says:
Allowed Vehicle Types := Fighter
and change it to:
Allowed Vehicle Types := Ship, Fighter

I also changed the line:
Effect 1 Amount Per Level := 0.0

to the following:
Effect 1 Amount Per Level := 0.1

This change will make the fighter engine speed increase by 100 per level.

So at level 20 and I've gotten a level 20 fighter engine for each of the engine slot, My max speed is almost 3000. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I didn't change the Fighter Engine component stats in the Main_stores to make it purchasable. Instead, I've been hunting fighters and gambling for Fighter Engine drops. I think it's more fun when you have to work for it.

Maybe you could point me in the right direction. I was wondering if I could mod the the fighters layout? Weapons & Shields.

Can I change the weapons on a fighter?
Can I increase there shields?

Yes, you can; I did something similar when I was arming my fighters for the BSG mod. Create your specific fighter component in Main_Components.txt, and then modify Main_Enemies.txt so that the Race X Class Wanted Comp entries reflect the thing you want them to carry, and set the Chance for that item to 100, and the fighters of that race will always carry that item.
