Wise beta-testers tell me, will we still have Gift of Reason in Dom II?

I play a lot Pangea (or nature-heavy man) because no one else in my group wants to and I've learned to love this spell. One game I had a mage who would cast the domination spell a lot - I would end comabt with various enemy creatures on my side. I loved to cast Gift of reason on them and give them a crown of command and send them back against thier fromer master as a general - just to add panache.

Or Gift of reason a cave drake and then school him in magic for a non-pretender tank mage.

Why would have they removed GoR from Dominions II?

Yes, Gift Of Reason is still here and kicks ***. I like to use it to in specific situations; one time I gave it to Tarrasque (great dragon) so he can lead troops and use breath weapon while they protect him. Its really interesting spell and I like having it in game.

Hey, wait...

In Dom1 dragons were pretenders. How could you have a Tarrasque, except as a pretender, and if you did, why did you need to cast Gift of Reason to it?
*shudder*...
Oh, wait... Wish? Uh-oh. I wouldn't like to be opposing a nation who can make things like THAT!

Speak about spell-combos!

Thanks! Love that spell. I recall dominating Bogus one time (I think it was Bagus) and makeing him my general.

Tarrasque is level 9 summoning. I think it requires level 7 in nature too and uses poisonous dragon breath.

Nerfix, I've checked before posting this time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Wish! That's what I did to annoy my fiend. I wished for Troll Raider, Gift of Lifed him, and nammed him Bogus.

Ah, those infamous Visitors! They are in DOM2, aren't they? Atleast they were in both CoE and Dom1...
By the way, I haven't seen them in a long time... Have always went for positive luck scales. Were they that powerful?

Ok, checked it and it requires level 5 in nature and 25 nature gems to summon. Description says that spell "Awakens ancient sleeping dragon".

The visitors are still present, and they have branched out they now appear in at least one additional random event.

Do you love your work with Dominions II that much?
I mean, some of the developpers won't even bother to make the game stable, and you... all those nifty small and not so small additions...

johan osterman

Not that I do any significant amount of actual work on dominions, I mainly sit around and complain, but it is the small additions that are the easiest and most fun to make.

But your "complaining" has impact on the game, rigth?

I certianly hope so.

I was thinking about some random events that make changes to a province (don't think is possible in Dom I).

Like a rift in the ground that a deamon springs from. After that, the new site rift generates 1 Fire gem per turn...

Or a Treelord to wonders from the forest and plants an enchanted grove, then joins you if your pretender has at least one nature magic pick.

@JO: I hope that Illwinter would use a tiny bit of all the things i have suggested them... Did you know that i made a windows icon for Dominions II, but Illwinter ended up using the same icon as the mac/linux/etc. Dominions II.

@Yojinbo:I kinda like those ideas.

Nerfix: Illwinters problem is not lack of ideas, there are plenty of unused ideas floating around here in the illwinter home office. So unless your or anyone elses ideas are very useful, or both good and easy to implement they are not very likely to get implemented.

And yes, I know about your icon.

I remember suggesting that magic sites that also double as forts should be discovered found.
You most be realy skillfull to not notice a 500 feet tall crystal in midle of a forest...
Any words on this?

while we are at it, I sent you a mail on your request about scripting extensions, and got no confirmation reading. Do you have it?

Any words on this?<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Perhaps it is located on top of an olympian mountain shrouded in clouds, or hidden from view by magical mists or mighty illusions Perhaps it is in the middle of a forest of ancient oaks whose mighty trunks dwarf all man made structures, or maybe it is not hidden from view but only accesible by a treacherous mountain road blocked by magic gates whose keys are magic riddles that only a trained mage might solve. Take your pick or make up your own reason.

Not really, just that most of the ideas have been presented before either by you or others on usenet or by mail. Sure they are good ideas. Does that mean they will get implemented, who knows.
