Does Dominions II have any new music or sound effects? Do we have music outside the batles?
Do you have new sound efects or do you use the Dominions I sound effects?

I only ask for one thing:
No Britney Spears themed songs! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Yeah, there is in game music and battle music. You can choose 2 different types of battle music (metal or medieval).

Oh my, that's something realy new...
Game music is something new, and i hope that the batle musics sound better than what we have in Dominions I...

I hope that we can turn off music still. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I like to listen to decent fantasy soundtracks while playing, instead of ingame music. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

You can toggle off the music if you wish, and I think the medieval stuff is quite good. The metal battle music isn't really to my taste, but it is an interesting addition for those who would perhaps be more into it.

I'm looking forward to the music! But I also hope that the music selection will be customizable, and in MP3 format. For example, I'd like to be able to put additional battle music MP3s in the DomII "Battle Music" folder, with one being selected randomly for each battle. My source will probably be HoMM3... that had some great battle music! However, I may throw in some Final Fantasy or even Xenogears battle music:)

I wish it were, but I'm afraid the music isn't customizable at this point. I'm hoping that particular feature might make it into a patch/upgrade some day, but it isn't in the beta Version. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

...i at least hope it isn't...
But, i'll listen to both medieval and metal, and then make my decisions.

You can use some mp3 player like Winamp to play music in background.

What about sound effects? Are they recycled from the DomI "tic-toc-squeak" template ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ), or were they made anew?

The point is, if MP3 support was integrated, the game would detect when you view a battle and start playing a battle track, like in most games that have discrete battle scenes. And it appears that DomII does this. Winamp can't do such things.
The only remaining advantage of Winamp is customizability - it can play random tracks from a custom playlist. Thus, if this ability was added to DomII (trivial, compared to putting in support for battle music in the first place) it would have music capabilities on par with its competition.

Yeah it would be cool to add own mp3s to our own mods in the future. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Imagine: LotR mod with LotR soundtracks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Sigh...
And here I was hoping for a C&W sound track... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
That's country and western for those not in the know... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Actually I don't like C&W at all, but since I never play a game with the music or sound on (wierd eh?) I was kinda hoping for the annoyance factor for the rest of you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Yeah, that's just the kind of guy I am, hehe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
