Ok I have to confess Marignon is my favorite nation to play, so what is new with Marignon for Dom II?

They seem to have a new Demon-worshipping theme. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And yes, I'm serious. The info is in some thread laying around...

I recall reading about the demon-worshipping Marignon. But I tend to play them as a good nation, so not sure if I would use such a theme. Guess I'll just have to wait for the demo http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .

Marignon has two new dominions: Fires of the Faith and Diabolical Faith.

With Fires of the Faith, the Inquisition is very strong. So strong, in fact, that you get the equivalent of a power-1 priest preaching in every province you own, with their power boosted when it comes to resisting other dominions. It costs 50 points and has its downsides, of course, but NO-ONE EXPECTS THE MARIGNON INQUISITION!!!!!

(OK, sorry, but I *had* to say it!!!!)

With Diabolical Faith, the Inquisition was failing to hold back the Death magic of Ermor, and so made deals with even stronger powers. Unholy forces were unleashed, innocents slaughtered, and the heathens burnt from the face of the land. The price was the ongoing taint of demon-worship in Marignon.

do you have new units in both of these themes? I like Marignon too (must be their cool attitude).

Under Fires of the Faith you have same units as in default theme. However, in my experience, this theme allows your domain to go beyond level 10 (unless changed in most recent patches). Under Diabolical Faith you lose Initiate, Witch Hunter, and Grand Master and get Diabolist (1/1 f/b) and Goethic Master (2/2/2/1 f/b/p/r)

And I suppose its really Goethic, as in the myth, and not Gothic ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Zelazny serie is a must read, do you think we can make a map based on it? It would be difficult to instill Amber background in dominions type games though.

I loved the Amber series.
The first book (9 princes or something) was amzing. the rest were garadually less so but still very good.
It would be great if someone made a map for it or even better make a mod.

Another great inspiration might be the etrernal champion by Michael Moorcock.

I made a doms I map about Melnibonée, there is a load of scripted provinces in it, if you are interested.

Hmm, the setting would provide a lot of good logic supporting different nations (from different Shadows, in this case) coming together. The map itself would probably work best if it represented a single Shadow instead of trying to replicate some kind of multi-plane effect.

Make each nation a Prince of Amber to be their Pretender and it should work out fairly well, I'd think.

Oh, and I call Benedict if it gets tested in MP. Heh! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Another option might be to make the Princes and Princesses the various Pretender options for one nation and set up the scenario to be a conquest of a Shadow realm, as apparently often happened in the days before the Patternfall War.

Very good idea the one of having the various nations be part of a shadow world. I was focused on the problem of make the nations fit with the 'true' Amber world.

And what about multiple shadow worlds, with in each one province for each nation. Marignon could for example be defeated (loose his starting province) in one reality, but continue to exists in some others. With gating/faery trod, you could 'move' from one reality to another, thus supporting your provinces.

or perhaps each starting province of the various shadow worlds have a physical connexion with each other?

edit : you dont happen to know if a game company ever publied RPG stuff on Amber? If I recall well the licence was given for a RPG game, but dont remember the details.

I think there was an Amber Diceless RPG. Not sure who published it.
