View Full Version : Changeable Game Parameters

The following idea come from some *heated* discussions over several threads http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . I guess that no matter what the game settings are, there will always be unhappy people. So, will it be a good idea to have more parameters that can change the game dynamics?
We currently have:
1) Indie Strength
2) Site Frequency
3) World Richness
and some others...
For example, we could have:
1) Indie Strength
2) Site Frequency
3) Blood Hunt efficiency - if gem income can be adjusted, there is no reason why blood income not modifiable.
4) World Wealth (affects gold income)
5) World Resources (affects resources)
6) Overtaxation Death Rate (so that people can still run a heavily economical game?)
7) Magic Richness (+/- gems for each site).
8) Number of Starting Provinces (the frequently requested feature).
Thanks Saber Cherry for 4 and 5. Any other ideas? And of course, to be meaningful, the number of parameters should probably be less than 10.

For real, this will make keeping a stable small province worth while, otherwise who needs 10 gold and 10 resource province? Except for strat purpose maybe

Remember, they are more common in certain provinces (Waste for example). A site which produce some gems, or has a good recruitable mage can make a 10/10 province very useful indeed.

I will give you a hint as an "old timer" in Dominions. Anything "worthless" means you should examine it closely for a useful strategy. This is one good example of that.
Low grade provinces are great. Especially if there is one full of supplies right next door. Even more so if there are strong independents on both sides of it.
I leave the crappy province weakly protected as bait, keep a big army in the hvy supply province next door. I dont take the indeps on both sides if I dont need those for anything. Lure your opponent into the province where his big army starts to starve. He either has to fight the indeps (free damage on him since I didnt need to buy the troops). Or he can attack my well-fed army. Or I can swarm down on him my fed troops vs his starving one. Then I pull back to food-land daring him to push forward again.
Thats what I love about this game. If its worthless, check carefully. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

...and the province could contain Fountain of Fire, Academy of High Magic, Damned Merchant and Tower of The Golden Order.
You'll never what could be in a "worthless" province...
