View Full Version : Does anyone play more than 1 nation simultaneously?

To learn different nations, I am going to try something new: play 2-3 nations at the same time on a huge map. Maybe this will enable me to learn the nations quickly. Besides, I am having trouble playing Jotunheim v. Ermor, so I need to pick a new race. What race would you suggest to beat Ermor?

The traditional answer to this is "Marignon". I assume it yet holds true for Dom 2, although of course I may be wrong.

Thanks, buddy. I will try it out.

Playing 2 nations is fun later on when you have a good idea of the abilities and limitations of each nation. Then you can explore the joys of alliances that can best boost the areas you are weak at. That way you can get the hang of transferring more than just gems and gold and items. You can learn to transfer commanders, and provinces, and how to use castles to move thru each others territory

Again, I thought there was no diplomacy in DOM II?

A lot of us found ways to use things differently than the programmers meant them. Gems, gold, and items are built into the messaging menu now (originally it would only allow sending them to human players but I asked that to be changed in Dom1)
The others are trickier. Allowing someone to take your provinces, parking a commander to be traded all by itself in a lone province so that your ally can snatch him with spells, and sliding thru your allies territory by shoving his army into a castle while you conquer it then move on so he can take it back.

Uh... I play all the nations at once.
How else can I get a good idea of how they match up against each other?

Well, there are some nations I would never consider playing. Whenever I play fantasy-type of a game, I never consider evil or monster-type of races. So I never even tried the Orcs or the Undead in Warcraft III. Similarly, I would never consider playing Ermor, Atlantis, Ryleigh, C'tis, Abysia, Pangaea, etc.
I doubt I'd ever play Caelum either, as they look a bit weak, and hit & run style is not my style.

Why on earth not?
There is always redemption! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
Also this game is so in depth, it boggles my mind trying as I look at all the options and I want to try and maximize all of them.

A brief note on Caelum: though I do not have Dom 2 yet, I will say this vis a vis Big C- They used to be quite astoundingly powerful. Fun, too! Give them a shot when you're done with Marignon!
Best regards,

Besides, there is Broken Empire that is still alive, Atlantis doesn't NEED to be bad, C'tis can use nature more than death if you want and Pangaea is just trying to found WHF...
Abysia still likes demons, though, and R'lyeh seems nasty, but you know what? You should 'know your enemies'. It really helps when you have tried them and noticed where you had difficulties, and then use those things versus them in the next game.
BTW, it's nice to see someone being that interested in Dominions. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Keep posting! Though most times it's not me who is answering... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I find Marignon the most evil nation...
They are Inquistors, Witch Hunters and Flagellants. Inquistors! Witch Hunters! Flagellants!
Do you have any idea what they did IRL?
Oh, BTW Joonie, you are missing a heck of nations if you play like that...

Actually I see where Joonie is coming from. I dislike playing death and blood theamed nations myself (though I am playing C'tis in a PBEM right now). Its just a personal thing, I'd rather play a 'builder' type race than a 'destroyer' one. Though the lines in Dom get blurred rather quickly so its not as big of an issue as it can be in other games.
Still R'Leth isn't evil per se... just, hmmm, well how about different http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Oh and the inquistion wasn't evil at all (depending on what side of it you were on http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) In fact the default name for any fantasy sports team I play is the French Inqusition (in honor of my daughter) and we don't have to cheat to win http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
