View Full Version : Best race for a rainbow pretender?

I really like having a rainbow pretender who discovers lots of sites, but I can't decide on which race most benefits from this.

Low magic race sounds good, but so does high magic.

I suppose a non-human race is preferable, since it takes a lot of points to get 3 in all schools.

Thoughts?

I only take 3 in the "good" schools, or the ones my nation has only 1 in (no searching spells)... and often skip astral. Which nations benefit? All of them except Ulm, but especially nations with random picks. With a good rainbow mage, you can get enough gems for serious empowering, but it's best to start with 1 point before empowering.

The only time I encountered a rainbow mage in Dom 1 was with Ulm and the race was a front runner in its 2 MP outings I was aware of - once right to the end.

Probably the biggest thing affecting Rainbow mages is magical site frequency. With a frequency of 60% you can find a alot of sites and alot of independent mages which can make good use of all the different gems.

What I would recommmend you avoid is a Rainbow mage with a dominion which kills/diseases indie mages.

Cheers

I like rainbow with Arcos which is best able to use a large income of gems.

I used to take 2 or 3 in as many magics as I could considering 4 to be too expensive. Now with the new blessing bonuses Im thinking I might try and see how many 4-magics I can get and which nation might best benefit from different blessings they give.

I like Arco for rainbow as well.

Unfortunately, the best blessing for the Heart Companion seems IMO to be astral 4, which of course is already covered bigtime.

I suppose you could drop nature to 2....

I think that the nation that may benefit most from blessings in general is Vanheim. They have two sacred troops, Vans & Valkyries, which are both already pretty tough, and the Vans are recruitable outside the home province. IIRC the only other nation which has sacred troops recuitable outside the home province is Margnon, and they are only the lowly Flagellents.

Ermor, w/ Ashen Empire (if it's anything like Old Ermor) and probably Soul Gate Ermor. At least with Ashen Empire, you should be able to take the Scales from Hell and get LOTS of points. You'll need the magic, actually, since your dominion will kill your taxpayers rather quickly (unless you wipe out your own dominion with stone idols) and thus alchemy income will be disproportionately important to you.
