On Turn 31 of a large game one of the AIs cast Burden of Time and 1 of my units dies.
On Turn 32 5 of my units die and I start to think that this will suck in the long run so I do to dispel the spell and find out that these numbers were the numbers of COMMANDERS that died not units. My God, Prophet, and 3 of my 4 mages are gone. There were no combats, no other death Messages, no notification that my God died.
Sammual - I think this spell is a bit overpowered (Or I got the worse die roll in history)

I've always hated that spell... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I've never been THAT unlucky, though. At any rate, I think it adds flavor to the game.

Does Magic Resistance or Luck artifacts help prevent these spells from killing important game players?

Who knows?
Excluding IW.

I hope you were just unlucky. That is a horrible result. It would be great if an advisor would speak to this.

I think he got the worst die roll on history. From my experience the effects are only uterly devastating on the long run because AFAIK it also kills provinces and increases unrest. As for the unit hurting effect, i mostly get dead units or units with afflictions.

It was probably a freak accident http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
The unrest and death is very annoying, but in my experience leader death is rather unlikely. Can't remember chances and MR though.

I was recently hit by Burden of Time, and lost two or three leaders on the first turn (including two experienced Black Priests with two Dwarven Hammers and one pair of Earth Boots, and one of them was Empowered), and some units in the same province. Thankfully, another AI dispelled the enchantment the next turn.
It would be nice to get explanatory Messages of who all has died or been afflicted by the spell (named characters, anyway). I know it's magic, but I kind of expected to see more afflictions and diseases rather than units just vanishing without a trace.
It'd also be nice and appropriate if the magic items were salvageable, at least when the victims were at a lab or other commanders were nearby (though, no automatic organ transplants, please http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ).

The existence of spells like this makes it useful to have some astral, for the sake of your empire.
Has anyone figured out what the chances to dispel are using certain numbers of extra astral gems?
