This is a bit off, but it's something like this...

Stars...Exp

*...20
**...50
***...100
****...250
*****...500
******...1000

I've never seen more than 6 stars, but Orion starts with 1000 XP. I've beaten Orion in the hero list, though, playing Abysia against Ermor with a Blade Wind mage or a Heroic Quickness 5-holy banishing prophet; I forget which. That was mainly from kills, not experience.

Who is Orion?

An mercenary who has a company of regenerating, flambeau wielding warriors.

Curious thing is, he remains in the Hall of Fame list, and under his former employer's banner too, even though he's been dead for some 20 turns now. He is not getting any more experience though, but I wonder whether you (or in this case, the AI), can actually revive him, even though he was a merc.

Revival? I don't know. But all dead heroes remain on the chart until they are eclipsed, and their heroic powers continue to grow as long as they are on the chart, even when dead=) The power of legend!

I might add here that aside from aquatic mercs (for land-bound races), Orion's group tends to be the best in the game. Especially against undead, or hordes of light melee-only units. What other mercs - cheap mercs, at that - can win against 300 soulless, with no support?

And his experience is no longer increasing, it has stopped at 1008 at the time of death.

I don't remember if it works on mercenaries, but you can attempt revival with Ritual of Rebirth.
Even if it does apply to mercenaries, 'tho, death will changed him a bit. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
