View Full Version : New Network Game Starting
Zapmeister
December 3rd, 2003, 05:39 AM
This is a restart of a recently-aborted game. All players must re-apply for positions by posting here. First person to claim a nation gets it. The game will run on Argitoth's 24/7 server, with these settings:
Independants: 6
Magic sites: 50
Victory: 60% of provinces on whichever map is selected
Map: Aran (4-6 players) or Desert Eye (7+ players)
The game will run Monday/Wednesday/Friday at the slowest, but players able to play at least one turn per day (especially at the beginning) are preferred. And please don't sign up if there's any chance at all that you'll be dropping out within the first 20 turns.

And everyone remember:
PASSWORD PROTECT YOUR GOD!!!!
It would be nice to have a password repository, though - a person who had all the passwords in case of a drop. I'll volunteer, though ideally, it would be the host, initiator, or (most ideally) a non-player. For obvious reasons.
P.S. I assume (these were not stated) we are going normal richness, normal events. Anyone mind if we have a 15-slot hall of fame? I'd prefer 20 slots, but 15's the max=)

Yes, anything unstated was intended to be the default. I have no problem with a 15-entry HOF. Actually, come to think of it, I'd also prefer to have the score graphs turned off (to avoid getting depressed when I'm obviously losing).

I actually LOVE the score graphs, but they reveal a little too much info for MP. Or a lot too much, perhaps. Do you still get to see them at the end of your game, when they are turned off?

I've changed my mind. I'll take Man, and Argitoth will be playing C'tis.

For Captain Scarlett (and anyone else unfamiliar with network games) Argitoth wrote an excellent set of instructions on creating a desktop shortcut to the game here (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=74;t=000509;p=3#000 001)
To get started, design your pretender and connect using the shortcut. Choose your nation, and your pretender details will be automatically uploaded.
Disconnect, then reconnect periodically to see if everyone has submitted their pretender yet. When they have, your turnfile will be automatically downloaded, and you'll be able to choose the game and play your turn offline.
Then reconnect to upload you turn, etc.

I'm in ! An easy way to do the shortcut is to cut & paste the command from the topic - make sure the quotes are put on. Good luck to you all.

Heheh, it looks like no one has any messengers.
I'll just post when the next turn is here. I might move this topic to Dominions X. It's a lot easier for me AND you for when I announce the next turns.

I'm up for whatever map anyone wants - could even stay on the DE though that could get cozy pretty quick

Just a note to remind everyone that the speed of the game is 3 turns per week, hoping to move faster in the early turns. With players from all round the world, we're unlikely to ever move faster than 1 turn per day, though.
Argitoth will enforce the deadline by force-hosting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10pm his local time which is GMT -6. At the time of writing, the deadline for the next turn is 30 hours away.
Shortly, we need to discuss a Christmas break, but we can probably get the game under way before worrying too much about that.

There's been a bit of a hiccup, and the game has to be restarted. Pretenders will not need to be resubmitted, though. See the "Gandalf ! Help !" thread for details.

A false alarm, touchwood. The game has proceeded to the next turn.
