Something without flash or explorer! Otherwise the Ovaska page looks nice. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
We'll stick to the simple layout for the moment. We needed something new with Dominions II and Shrapnel, but we're interested to hear what you prefer.
The current page is not to be permanent. On the other hand we're not likely to remake it ourselves in the near future. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
* Edit: oh, the flash components seems to have vanished. Good http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif *
* Second Edit: much nicer than earlier today http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif *

Its a very nice page. Nice work. Personally I like darker pages.
But Illwinter seems to like lighter colors and their page will be easier for them to keep updated. Plus the older simpler code works in more browsers and servers.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">As always (me making suggestions in this area) I think you could go for a flashier first page. Just images and color. The pages behind that can (and should) be kept simple and easy to update.

1st i need to apoligize my bad english (or rather miss types) and im not the maker of the pages (all tho i have promision to make this "poll" here) as for the explorer issue is only a minor detail at the momoen what i want to know is what people think of the GRAPHICAL out look (as the current is as horrible as it is (no offence))
for me (as it surely works) id rather see that page (maybe after some editing? ) for now
id rather see the old page (as it proven to be working and looks ok)

I also like the new graphical look better than the ugly page. Nice is known to be better looking than ugly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I would like to see the pics of our games displayed on the first page though.
And as Gandalf said, I would prefer if I could add and alter things easily in the interior (new maps, mods and such).

What Illwinter has now as a first page isnt horrible. But it is horrible as a first page. Its actually quite easily read and would be a good news page. (congrats on moving up to tables)
The first page can be as graphical and eye-catching as possible if its setup as one that wont get updated much. I would recommend an effort to have the links that move deeper into the site pop up first, very fast. And be simple enough to work with all browsers (even non-graphical ones). That way the people who can and would like to see the full effect of the first page are the only ones forced to wait for it.

I prefer Wractale's pages over the current ones because they are a bit easier to use(no need to hit the back-button), they have a bit nicer colors(i don't like pink that much... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) and are less cluttered(the link pictures at IW's are cluttered nowadays).
Pink... (http://www.illwinter.com/)
It seems that you can get to the main page with a single click, but it is quite well hidden...
OTOH, I know that Wractale just LOVES flash and non-simplistic code.

I like the new layout of the official site. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Simple but easy to use. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

I have been talking to them about it and offering some share-space but so far they are hosted. I dont think the options for Plone and the Zope it runs on would be open. (thanks for the pointer though, I do have Zope running)

If illwinter wants to code their site by owns, (I think that they are using Linux) I recommed that they should use Quanta as HTML editor.
EASY, fast and best of all,
IT'S AVAILABLE FOR LINUX!

BTW, I love Linux and Open source. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Too bad if their host won't allow it. It's gives a nicer site and is easier to manage than something html based.
Caveat. Plone is easiest to setup on Windows, where you basically just install it and turn it on. I'm trying to apt-get it on Debian right now, and am having to wrestle with configuration. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">You sure manage to put up good looking web pages in notime. Maybe we should take a look at Quanta and see if it is magic or something. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
After looking around a little I see that it is actually already installed in my Mandrake Linux. I have never tried it though.

I get that too on my Debian Linux box. After hearing about something cool, or stumbling across it while reseaching something I want to do. After checking I find out that its already loaded on the box. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hmmm maybe I didnt notice before but I cringed when I saw that Illwinter's link to the newsgroup is a google. I know Im OLD internet (pre-WWW, even pre PC) but I'd rather see it as a news or nntp link then have a non-clickable pointer to google-Groups for if that doesnt work.
Just a pet peeve. Sorry

-- It used to be "cant see the forest for the trees",
the new Version could be "cant see the Internet for the WWW"
