I've been having a whirl with Marignon and being having a miserable time with Holy Pyre. Holy Pyre seems to always target the big group of infantry moving up in the back not the mounted charging up in your face. As they are wildly inaccurate at long range this is very sad. The one good thing is that if you might be lucky and drop one on top of some enemy mages but in general I'd rather be hitting whats getting in my face than spraying wildy in the rear zones.

cheers

Thats just the way that spell is designed. Try setting your mages all the way to the back of the battlefield so the range tops out near the frontline (just a thought, I didnt look up the range on that spell first). Or try looking froa spell where people have the oppossite complaint. The range being too short for them or affecting the area around the mage.

I've had excellent luck with that spell, so it must be in how you use it. I had, in one battle, a force of a few units led by 4 spell-casters capable of using that spell facing off against 400 undead. My commanders finally had to fly, although with casualties, but I'd fried 350 out of 400 of the enemy.

Mmmm . . . Cajun-style Ermor! Zesty!

I also crisped all the commanders, which was especially pleasant. More than any other race, IMHO, Ermor leans on its commanders. That's why I tend to use flyers with Attack Rearmost orders on them a lot. Mindless troops do have their disadvantages!

I know exactly where you are coming from. Many spells are just too inaccurate to contemplate using. I prefer to stick with precision-100 spells.

For Marignon use:

Phoenix Power followed by Incinerate.
For the Grandmasters have someone cast Light of the Northern Star (or use a banner of the northern star) and have them cast Astral Fires.

Both these effects are precision-100 and armor negating. What's not to like?

The other big effect for Marignon is Flaming Arrows, which works well with the crossbows. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
