View Full Version : Number of AI Players

What determines the number of randomly generated AI players in a game? Sometimes when I start a game with 1 human and 4 or 5 AI players, I'll run into empires that I know I didn't pick as AI-controlled on the map. But then when I started on a really huge map with no AI players to see how many I get, I only found two opponents, Arcoscephale and R'lyeh. Are there specific empires that always appear on certain maps? I'm not playing any maps with yellow stars next to them (scenarios, right?)... Or are there really more empires in my huge map game, I just haven't encountered them yet and so they don't show up in the score graph? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

This has happened to me a few times, here is the solution: If you "look" at a map with a yellow star and then choose another one without a yellow star the races from the first one/scenario will carry over and be in addition to the race/s you picked to play against. So, you have to pick your starting nation again and choose the map you want...it is neccessary to know in advance in this case http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif . I don't know if this is a "bug" or just a clumsy quirk in the interface http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif .Note: your "simple" game against an easy ai opponent can turn into a real nightmare as some of the ai's are set at impossible http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif .

Hmm, that's a bug. Only opponents you pick should be in the game...

What map did you select? Some maps are designed around specifically chosen AI's and will put them in.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the map, but I do know that it was really huge and wrapped around... I'll start up the game and describe it some more... OK, it's mostly land with 2 major oceans...
There also seem to be victory point provinces on this map, even though I didn't select victory by victory points... at least there's not a score graph for them, it's hard to remember what settings I picked!
