Just a quick note: I replaced the background image in Dom2 (the brown wood texture) with the same beige texture from the Aran game map. Much easier on the eyes, and much more pleasing to look at, IMO. If anyone wants to check it out, you can grab it HERE (http://targa.webspace4free.biz/index.html).

How about one that replaces the background with a QuickKey list that could be seen around the edges of the map?

I'm running 1024x768 (I think) and I see 1 and 1/2 background pics. I tried making the bg pic 1024x1024, and it stayed the same (Dom "squished" it). Also, the windows (province info, all the buttons on the right, units windows on the left) all cover up part of the list. Even if you zoom all the way out and pan around you can't read everything. I would think it might be simpler to just print out a reference sheet and keep it next to the comp...
EDIT: I played around a bit more with it and came up with a semi-useful one I think. Take a look HERE (http://targa.webspace4free.biz/index4.html). Zooming the map out via "page down" key, as well as moving the map with the arrow keys will probably be necessary. Also, I don't know how this will look in resolutions other than what I use myself.
