Some creatures have "life drain" as their standard attack, such as ghosts. But I dont know what this is exactly. Is it identical with the "drain life" spell?

Not exactly the same. The spell is a precision 100 ranged spell with 14 armor negating damage, the attack is an armor piercing meelee attack with damage 0 (plus to strength of the unit).
Both the spell and attack heals hp and fatigue of the caster depending on how much damage was done. I dont know the formula.
