Hi folks...I'm relatively new to the forums (been lurking for a bit) and I am new to Dom II. I've been playing the demo as often as I possibly can for the Last two weeks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I've just ordered my full copy this morning, so I hope to be getting into some Online or PBeM games quite soon.
I just wanted to say that this community seems full to the brim with knowledgeable and committed fans of Dominions, and I am proud to be part of such a company. It has been most edifying reading all your Posts (especially General Tacticus' fantastic Mictlan AAR) and I hope to post more frequently when I have the full game in my hands. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome. I think I'm going to go mad waiting for my copy to arrive...how many times can one person click on the "track order" link over at GamersFront? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Welcome to our Addiction.
In order not to lose you please do the following before the full game arrives.
Since the full game will not have the 40 turn limit you should make arrangments to have someone check on you every 2 or 3 days.

Plus, if I start to get *really* glassy-eyed, either my wife or my kids will poke me in the face to make sure I'm still With The Living. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

A quick question - approximately how long did it take U.S. customers to receive your sold copy of Dom II from GamersFront, presuming you selected UPS Ground as the shipping method? Did you have it within a week or so?
Yes, I am going insane, but I'm also trying to coordinate with a friend who's going to be getting the game as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Don't know about that. If you chose UPS ground (if that's the option), they usually take about 3-5 days depending on how far away you are from them (usually 5 days). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I was so desperate that I selected the express shipping and got it in 2 days (ordered Wed, got Fri).
To keep yourself busy, you may want to try all the different nations to see which one(s) best fit your playing style, so by the time the game arrives, you'll have a pretty good idea of what nation, pretender, scenario, scales, etc...you want to use to start your first full campaign.
Edit: Funny thing about ordering... I didn't realize that the picture on Shrapnel's web site was a pic of the manual (thought it was a box shot). When I got it, it was a "Dominions 2" book wrapped in cellophane. I said to myself, "Oh no! Don't tell me I mistakenly ordered a Dom2 strategy book or something....NO!!!!!!" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif As I'm ripping off the shrinkwrap, I'm saying to myself, "It better be in here, it better be in here....". Much to my delight it was the Dom2 manual with the game CD stuck between the pages in a paper jacket. *whew*! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I know, I know...I should have done Express but my wife would have given me the Evil Eye for spending the extra money. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
3-5 business days is acceptable to me. As long as I have it before next weekend I won't have to go on any kind of a rampage whatsoever.

I took free shipping and got it in 2 or 3 days... You should have ordered it USPS First Class Mail.

Well, the nice thing about UPS is that it can be tracked far more easily than First Class mail. So if something goes wrong in shipment, I definitely want that tracking number available to me, so that I don't have to just say "oh well, there goes $50 out the window."
I almost always take a trackable shipping method if it's offered.

Welcome fahdiz,
I hope you enjoy your time here in the Dominions 2 Forum. I'm still looking for my Domiderm Patch so I can get my Dominions 2 while I'm at work.
In the meantime, you might try looking at all the various resources availiable to help those who recieve a brand spank'n new game, in order to be fully equipped to get beat upon by friends and strangers alike http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I've already downloaded the vast majority of helpsheets, worksheets, sheetsheets, and sheets related to this game...I grabbed everything I could from the Dom II Library. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Yes, I'm detail-oriented, and way too excited about my full copy of the game. I've played Ceremony's walkthrough a number of times, as well as striking out on my own with Aran and The Desert Eye. I've pored over General Tacticus' Mictlan AAR as well as the other game writeups on the forum. I've done a lot while I've been lurking. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Looking forward to receiving a thorough beatdown at the hands of the more experienced players on this forum. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Here's some advice (too late for you, obviously, but it might be early enough to save some money for someone else planning on buying this game...)
You should make sure you finish playing anything else on your drive/in your "new games" stack before you order Dominions2. I made the mistake of buying a few other games "in advance", and they're either sitting idle on my drive, or still uninstalled, since I got Dominions2. That was in, er, November. By the time I grow tired of Dominions2 as my only PC game, the other games will probably cost 15 Euros each instead of the 40+ I paid for them.
(And I've yet to really try to play... er... maybe 13 of the nations)

The only other PC games I'm playing with any regularity are either Warlords IV, which is a fun diVersion when I need a break from thinking too hard, or freeware titles like Nethack, Slash'EM, Spirit Wars, etc. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif When the public beta of Archon: Evolution comes out (should be within a month or so) Dom II will have to share a bit. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I have an Xbox and am frothing at the mouth for the upcoming release of Wrath Unleashed...so likely I'll be splitting my time between WU and Dom II.
