there's the save game file. Ok... so this is what happened.

1. I started a game, c'tis vs impossible arco (named the game Argitoth)

2. started playing

3. send my immortal pretender into combat with no
dominion

4. my pretender died.

5. i started another game (named it Argitoth and overwrited the existing game)

6. I got the two start-game Messages as
normal. "In the beginning there was Chaos" "Now
the wheel has turned once again". I look at my castle, everything is fine, my pretender looks healthy, etc.

7. I see there has been a battle... A battle? On turn one? C'tis VS Indipendance... What the hell?

8. I view the battle. It's the battle with the same exact amount of units and the same types of units as Last game. (The only thing I'm not sure of is if it was the same exact thing happened, but just like Last game, my pretender died in this battle.)

9. I try to view the battle again. It gives me an error... didn't record which one it was though.

10. I try to view the battle once more. No error this time.

11. Now since my pretender died in that battle... why is my pretender still alive in my castle? Even though my pretender was immortal, the battle he was in had 0 dominion. Not only that, my pretender didn't have the "weakness" affliction on him that he got and died in during the glitch battle.

12. I look at the start-game Messages. I notice there is no message about a battle occuring.

It's the strangest occurence imaginable...

13. I continue to play the glitch game. I get my pretender into the province he died in at turn 1. The units are completely different. They are regular militia/heavy infantry... The one my pretender died in consisted of nightmares, a few mages, and some other doods.

I have observed this phenomenon as well. Battles from overwritten games on the same map (Orania scenario at least) are available using the "v" command on the first turn of new games.

Strange, but not a damaging buglet.

Hmm... this has only happened once to me and I've been overwriting the same folder many many times.

My advice: Reinstall Windows. Should fix that problem right up.

Don't worry, I've seen it happen multiple times. I think it reads the old file and shows battle icons where battles were in the previous game. Does nothing though.

Actually the problem is just that you still have your old .trn or .2h file (I think .trn) in your game folder, saying you fought a battle in the previous turn, complete with battle replay. It doesn't really matter, since your starting position has been correctly recalculated, so you can safely ignore what it says...
