My greatest accomplishment with that nation? Ensuring world peace for all eternity by reducing the entire world to 0 population. After all, as the saying goes, "Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions, and you are a conqueror. Kill all, and you are a god!", and "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

What! That quote is correct. Its like that exactly in the book.

I think he's refering to the punctuation and capitalization.
Don't worry, Trup is just a crumudgeon. Though you may want to change it, as this forum is filled with Tolkien lovers http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Punctuation, capitalization, and the word "together" I don't think is supposed to be there.
So far, I rather like Ulm, Mictlan, and Ermor, though I think they're all good and interesting.

1. Jotunheim (Utgard)
2. R'leyh
3. Ashikaga mod
4. Ulm (basic)
1. me likes bashing puny humans!
2. all your thoughts are mine!
3. the way of the warrior!
4. Santa's workshop makes all sorts of nice destructive toys ...

1. Man [strategy just seems to fit my play style]
2. Abysia [i like expensive, powerful units]
3. Jotunheim [ditto]
4. C'tis
Least Favorite Nations:
1. Machaka
2. Pangaea [have not yet played even a SP worthy game with them]

Of those I've tried so far, R'lyeh, TC Spring & Autumn, and Ashikaga I've liked the most. They're not necessarily the strongest nations, but thematically are quite spiffy.

1. Ermor - Ashen Empire. It was easy, but I love the super powerful Pretender with like 700 points to spend on him.
2. Jotunheim/Niefelheim I am terrible with them, and can't seem to win, but I have a lot of fun losing. My strategy doesn't seem to mesh with their strengths, I need to try something new with them.
3. Machaka(pre 2.08) Tons of research from my straw hut = my strategy to a tee...this is why I suck with Niefel, no Witch Doctors. Of course, now Machaka is at Man's research level, Hello, Bards! But without her Longbows. OOps!
4. Atlantis Coral Guards, I love you. Seers, Powerful priests, and the Dagon. Sign me up!
16. Pythium Easiest game I ever played. It was so easy, it wasnt even fun.
17. Vanheim I dont even know why. I tried to try them a few times, but I just don't like them at all. Maybe its because they are like Jotunheim, but not. I dunno, Helheim has much of the flavor of my liked nations...I need to try em again.

Mine are Ulm (except Iron Faith, which I despise) and Abysia (both themes).
However, can we please cut down on the thread necromancy? I don't see this one as particularly bad, but some other instances of the dark rites being practiced here have been somewhat annoying. It's good that new users take a look at old threads, but excessive thread necromancy often irritates other posters. Of course, if necromancy is not forbidden or even not frowned upon, please disreagrd this complaint.

Isn't it generally better to reply to a thread on a topic of interest than create a new one on the same topic?
Since, as you allude to, forum vets often encourage newcomers to search the forum for old posts to answer their questions, we should probably accept that posting to a thread so found will be a natural consequence.

Actually I'm really enjoying the thread necromancy (love the term too) - I find the Search function on this board so poor that I probably wouldn't otherwise have seen these threads.
I've been thinking hard about this one - I've not played every race yet (haven't tried Atlantis, Tien Chi, Machaka, Ermor or Pangaea), and I've only played the base theme of all the others.
I think my favourite experience so far would have to be Vanheim, followed by C'tis.
That may all change though.

I use google for searching this forum. It usually works way better than the forum search.
In the google box:
site:www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads term_to_search
example:

Hope that helps.

Necro'd... and I thought that Norfleet had returned, but no. I think it's funny how many people liked Ulm at the beginning, and now (I assume) despise it.

I don't know. I still love Ulm, especially standard and Black Forest. I despise Iron Faith, though. Sure, they may not be very good at competitive MP, and if they don't find druids or amazons, they're really screwed magic-wise without a rainbow pretender (which invariably suck in the unmodded game but can be pretty good with the CB mods). But I still like Ulm. Might be because I like sandbox style play and the addition of Black Forest makes Ulm perhaps the thematically most intriguing nation alongside Abysia and Ermor.

so far I prefer Abysia, and Thematically I love the aztec part of mictlan, but dislike the dominion spreading blood sacrifice thing. I love the look and feel of machaka. I really lve Rlyeh especially for the void gaete summons and when you build a fortress next to the sea you get loads of hybrids, like in the movie Dagon (and corresponding HP Lovecraft shorts)
if you want to talk unstoppable expensive units then the way to go is new age pangaea. those armored up minotaurs are a force to be reckoned with. Haven't really dipped into the vanilla fantasy units yet... man or ulm, or even ermor and pythium.

I would really like BF Ulm if their mages had the correct magic paths. Like if the Illuminated One has B and the Member of the 2d Trier had BBD. That would be swell.

There is only one thematically correct pretender for BF Ulm, and that is the VQ. I suppose blood fountain could also do in a pinch, as could Ghost King, but they still aren't nearly as fitting. Then you can use the VQ to summon a count who will summon more.
Ermor is also a favorite of mine thematically, even though I don't much like playing with it.

What are this for nations?

Sauromatia: in DomIII, there are Eras.
In the Era before the fall of the Ermorian Empire, Sauromatia existed where Pythium would once be. Hydras, lizardmen different from those of C'tis.
I haven't heard from Shinuyama previously, but Shinoyama is a Japanese name (at least google told me about a Japanese photographer named like that). Shinu seems to mean 'to die' and Yama 'mountain'. Going purely by name gotten from an online translator, I quess we have our first Earth/Blood nation.
