This came up in the Age Poll and I was curious. I suspect that the crowd is mostly male, but a not so random sample will give us more info. As such, can you indicate if you are a boy or a girl? I resisted the temptation to put “other” as a choice…
Thanks!

What does this poll tell us? "Females don't vote." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

There's one!
They do exist!
...I mean, the kind that play dominions...I knew they existed in general....

And I know of a 14 year old little sister of a friend, but she doesn't post here.

Heh? *Eyes the poll* Remember when Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was released. When someone posted a posted a similar poll, everyone was amazed that the women outnumbered the men.
There seems to be a fair number of female gamers interesting in strategy games, otherwise known as the sweaty and unshaved bastion of men in torn T-shirts.
And one got to admit it. While the game is very good it's sort of lacking in initial magnetism. Heck I wouldn't have given it a second chance if it hadn't been for a famous resident of the Age of Wonders forums, talking himself warm in praise for Dominions 2. The competition is fierce and I guess it's hard for this game to stand out amongst all the prettier faces.

Well, one minor problem with Dom is that there are few 'cute' units, or units that some of us would like to have a warm, fuzzy bond with. That just leaves the big 'ol sweaty hunks to get excited about ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I do have a soft spot for my Vastness SC, but it's hardly cute. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

In many forums where females tend to be outnumbered they also tend to be lurkers for a long time to avoid coversations that are.... off topic. Actually thats probably true of any group that feels they are probably outnumbered in a forum, they tend to lurk.
I thought we were probably going to end up with a bunch of A/S/L Posts (AOL started the ASL's Age Sex Location)

My wife doesn't post here. But I got her playing this game with me in hotseat now... (I'm a lucky bastard as my wife shares most of my hobbies...., metal (music), roleplaying and wargaming (to a degree)among them.)

And, BTW, look at the poll results again.

I did not realize the A/S/L issue was so sensitive and had created problems in other Boards. While off topic, I was interested in the demographics of the folks who share my interests and felt others may be similarly interested. Thanks for letting me know that it is normally considered inappropriate on the internet, or at least in forums. Hopefully the anonymous nature of the poll will help avoid any of the nastier possibilities which could have occured.

I don't feel it any more inappropriate as some other comments that have been made. It wasn't intended to be some sort of Online Dating service, at least from what I understood the poll to be.
An interesting poll would be a Geographic Poll, as it's interesting to see how many people play from other countries.

I am also lucky as I've gotten my wife hooked on Dominions 2 also. The only problem is that she keeps beating me!

Its what it can become. I dont think our community here is large enough to generate that type of problem but if it does then it will get nipped then.
