I haven't really looked for the effects being cursed has on my units but since I am currently pondering to forge a cursed item I am wondering what the curse it actually doing ? - the item is for a mage who should not see any combat.

Unless I am mistaken, being cursed increases your chances of receiving battle afflictions when wounded.
A cursed item cannot be transfered.

I confirm, being cursed increases your chances of getting afflictions when wounded.

A cursed item only means it cannot be removed from the wearer. Eyes or hearts are cursed, for example, and cannot be removed. Many cursed items, particularly the really powerful ones, also make the wearer cursed (as above) or horror marked (a small chance of being attacked by an horror each turn). Some give an affliction (eye loss, chest wound). Some have no side effects. The description of the item usually tells whether it curses the wearer, or attracts horrors, or causes an affliction, but sometimes you have to find out the hard way.

Yes, a cursed item is not exactly the same thing as being cursed. The item is simply unremovable, while a curse (as from a witch) is also permanent and much worse, making you an affliction magnet.

Sounds like a forging/summoning mage with cursed items will be fairly safe.

Cursed and Horror Marked items are a different story, but with good bodyguards this should be possible, too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
