I sent a Demonbred with devils under his command into a battle (without other friendly commanders).
When I looked at the replay, the devils routed, quickly followed by the DB.
Without a specific reason as far as I could see.
Is it possible the DB fell unconscious because of spellcasting/ flying and the devils decided that there was no active magic leadership present?

I am fairly certain that an unconscious leader doesn't cause his armies to rout. Perhaps your ennemy had fear causing troops, or perhaps you were just extremely unlucky on your morale roll ?

I guess a dev would have to answer that. As to what likely happened, you just got unlucky with your Devils morale checks. I've had a group of 30+ Abysian HI rout without a single loss due to a single barrage of arrows from ~15 indie shortbows on the second turn of battle. Nothing else was remotely close to them, but apparently one of the arrows hit someone in the groin and everyone decided to turn tail lest they become eunuchs... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
Strange things can happen with morale from time to time...
