View Full Version : The single strangest bug I have ever encountered, period.

Weeellllll.

Where to begin.

Version 2.06 MP TCP/IP game (I am host, and I'm playing Utgard). We have 10 players remaining, one AI, from an original 12. Bug occured on turn 35:

I logged in to play my turn after hosting, and discovered that somehow I invaded roughly 40 provinces. "That's odd, I only remember invading one province Last turn. Oh...look. A message saying that my upkeep costs were 1700.... They were only 200 Last turn...."

Log in to my turn, and sure enough I hold a smattering of provinces around the entirety of the map, and have a massive number of units I never had before. Gygja's, for example, which I can't even recruit. Plus, all my old units are gone....

Hmm.... A possible cause just occured to me....

I host two MP games, and the turns hosted at exactly the same time today.... Is it possible that it processed the turns from the other game in this game?

I noticed this too, since every single one of my units just dissappeared, as did every one of my provinces.

That's a very baffling bug. I've never seen anything like that? Maybe it's 2.06->2.08 data conflict? Did you ever install any 2.08 datafiles at any point?

If you say both games hosted at once, it COULD be possible that both of them attempted to read/write the same temporary processing files, and in the process, garbaged each other.

I do beleive that is what happened. We had no water nations in that game, and yet both Atlantis and R'lyeh (who are in the other game I'm hosting) suddenly have control of a large number of provinces.... Also, the units I have are from a Jotun theme I'm not playing, which could very well be from the Jotun player in the other game I'm hosting....

Any chance I could get a comment from someone in the position to know what happened? I have a zip of the game directory - it's pretty good even just for a lark.

Would be funnier if I had the previous turns turn files to show too, but oh well.

Seriously, though. This strikes me as something Illwinter should look into. It is a bug that has effectively destroyed our game....
