well just to have more moves to ponder over I requested another game to be started at mosehansen. I made some uncommon settings for the heck of it.

Tool's Fool's

map: inland
Research Difficulty: 0 / Easy
Strength of independents: 8
Magic Site Frequency: 65
Host every 24h + quickhost

everything else is pretty much the same.

see y'all there i hope.

80.161.86.108 port# 2303

its not up yet...just put in the request today

I'll play. How do we pick nations? I'd like to be Ermor.

For those who don't know, which was me until I looked it up, mosehansen is at: (i think)
http://www.mosehansen.dk/cgi-bin/dom2.pl

BTW, I don't see your game listed there.

As a newbie, once again, I'm lucky enough to be able to ask these questions.

The guy below has quiet clearly proclaimed the existence of a new game, however, there is no IP or Port, so how does one go about joining???

djtool

just put in in the original post spacepain.

as far as picking nations goes y'all can work that out if you want i really don't have a preference

Cool, with just 1 turn a day, I think I can manage.

I'm in. For my first bout in MP, I think I will play... Marignon. They're a nice simple nation. Go ahead and post again when the server is up.

Correction: I NO LONGER CAN PARTICIPATE.

djtool

ok i was just informed that i was a bad boy for using " ' " in the game name. I have corrected this and filled out the form for another game to start.

djtool

ok its up

port number has been changed to 2303

I have taken the C'tis

i'm hoping we get at least 8 players so i'll try to hold out until at least then.

I'm looking at the mosehansen.dk site, I see toolsfools as an open game, but I don't see any links for how to join the game. (To start a game, sure, but not to join.)

Is there some secret to joining a game there?

Thanks!

But - do I need to have my Pretender for that race created on my local machine before joining?

I had started to think that might be why some nations were grayed - I didn't think it was just that I was too new to be allowed to play fish. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (At first, I thought they might be reserved, or not available for the map / game.)

In which case, if Fool's Tools is just waiting for 8, the game is ready to start. As self-proclaimed sacrificial (stainless steel) porcupine, I've just been SP-testing the not-so-optimal Pretender I joined the game with, and I'm fairly confident.

Testing with indies at strength 8, my first wave of amphibious assault troops almost held their own against a bowl of goldfish left behind by some Hoburg troops, retreating with less than 70% casualties.

I think that it's pretty well necessary for people to post in the thread if they are going to play - otherwise there are likely to be a number of "phantom" players - say, someone accidentally uploaded a pretender or something.

so far:

catquiet - caelum
cainehill - unknown (ulm?)
djtool - c'tis
kel - acoscephale
quantum mechanic -jotunheim

and, on the possibility/probability that the slots aren't filled, I'll take Pythium.

However, if there really are unannounced players for Vanheim, Machaka and pangaia, I'll happily recuse myself.

Djtool, do you know if those slots are actually taken?

One problem you may have is that people go to mosehansens from 4-5 different forums (like QT3 and gonegold) and there is no mosehansen forum so people may join open games, fully intending to play, and just not be reading this forum http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I don't see that as too big a deal. First turn i'll just send a global message to all the players with the web address if they are interested in it.

as far as people placeholding nations. Well I suppose if your concerened about stepping on someones toes I would just avoid those nations. Otherwise the game *is* going to be kicked off tonight and if those nations are still not chosen I don't see why you shouldn't take them. Besides as was pointed out earlier there are no doubt people that don't frequent these forums that might wish to play and they certainly wouldn't know anything about who wants what nation. I might be wrong but it just seems like it falls in the realm of first come first serve anyways.

i guess some of that was redundant, forgive me

ok I started the game...but I think I 'screwed it up'....a little.

there are no computer opponents except for the tien chi...and that is because i was experimenting with how would I make the other nations computer controlled. in the future if I start another game I'll know to just select the remaining ones and set them for computer controlled.

so anyways its up and running and pretty much hooman vs. hooman.

Good Luck y'all

I'm in, and completed my first turn.

Just to handicap myself a little, I chose one of the worse nations for my first MP game. And since that might not have been enough to make things fair, I picked a pretender who doesn't like Machaka's scales. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I'm also in the game, having just finsihed my first turn.

Question, ....
Do the Victory point provinces mean we're playing a VP scored game? I don't mind if we are, but I didn't see any mention of it in the game description.

If it is a VP, what are the victory conditions?
Also, from within the game, how do you find out what the victory conditions are? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Norfleet
March 20th, 2004, 06:17 AM
Victory point provinces are mostly meaningless if the game you are playing in does not use them as a victory condition. Otherwise, the number of VPs you hold determines how close you are to winning the game by that means.

If you have no idea how many you need to win, then you probably did not enable them as a victory condition, either.

I know the game is early, but since many of us are new players, any comments on the game so far?

I noticed many players made a prophet on turn 1, while others waited until turn 2-3.

The fast research is VERY fast! This, coupled with the high level of Indys, will make for a magic flinging game for sure.

I like the high Indys, but I think the the easy magic research is going to have too dramatic of an effect on the game.

Comments?

djtool
March 22nd, 2004, 07:47 PM
i did it just to have something different form the other 4 games i'm in.

i'm no expert but when it comes to making a commander into a prophet I guess some people like to do it with their starter commander for battle support and spreading the love early. Others probably wait because they're going to recruit a unit with a preist level of 3 or 4 and they want to boost up their power.

Kel
March 22nd, 2004, 09:13 PM
Keeping in mind that I don't know what I am doing...

With Arco and the whole dominion scrying deal, I tend to make my starting scout a prophet. There are pros and cons to this but mostly it comes down to that I tend to value the fast start (via dominion scrying spread by scout) more than having a level 4, instead of level 3, priest. Especially, with Arco, I tend to have enough priestesses around that having Fanaticism, instead of sermon of blessing, isn't as important as having a stealthy dominion spreader (who will, admittedly, get caught one day http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

With C'tis(Miasma), my other favorite nation, I make an empoisoner (mage-assassin) my prophet on turn 4 so I can start laying claim to (and weakening) provinces ahead of time.

The only other nation I have really played is BF Ulm where I may wait until turn 10+ to get a Vampire Count and make him Prophet.

From the Posts below, here's what I think to be the participants and their nations:

Arcoscephale (Kel)
Caelum (Catquiet)
C'tis (djtool)
Ermor (z0dd)
Jotunheim (quantum_mechani)
Machaka (Cainehill)
Marignon (Spainpain)
Pangaea (Breschau)
Pythium (archaeolept)
T'ien Chi (computer)
Ulm (Ady)
Vanheim (?)

Can someone help with the unknowns? One of these is AI, correct?

Hey, I thought this game was going to be Easy Research? Is Machaka in a parallel universe in the game, because research sure looks normal from there.

Every SP game I've had research set to easy, it took 15 research points to get to level 1 in a path; Machaka, port 2303, it's 20 - just like with normal research.

Does a pretender get 1 RP for each magic level he has, added to the default research # they start with?
