Hey all, I've looked for this in the manual, and can't find it; what's a theme? I started a game, saw 'Golden Age', but it just seems descriptive.
Is this something I can change?

-Jeff <font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yes. Think of "themes" as official mods for each nation. When you are designing your pretender, and when you get to the Dominion portion of the design, you'll notice a "select special dominion" (or similar wording). Click on it and you'll get a list of any special themes you can choose for the nation you're playing.
Some themes vary quite widely from the base Version of the nation. They're fantastic! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Isn't that the truth!
It just keeps getting deeper and deeper. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
By the way, the Golden Era theme is really, really fun. Quite a departure from standard Arcos, with some really neat and creative units. The Sceptic rocks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
