So I was playing around at the end of this game and cast wish and got a doom horror. Being a good message board junkie I think equipped it with the required stuff (ring of regen, some MR) and sent it out to go on a killing spree.

Imagine my shock when it runs into a pretender and DIES. I was flabbergasted. How, exactly, could my uber, super, unparalleled killing machine be killed by a pretender? An arch mage pretender no less. I was almost insulted.

So I watched the replay. The battle was over before it was started. The pretender ( stupidly ) buffs himself with some meaningless buff. The horror eats some unit near the pretender, everything is going according to plan I think to myself. Then the pretender ( which is now pretty close to the horror, maybe a range of 8 or so ) launches about 7 or 8 orb lightings, and poof my beautiful horror dies. I was horrified.

I quickly checked my spell listings to see how such a horrible thing could happen. And there it was "Orb lighting number of effects 1+, damage 10 armor negating" hey where is the MR check? EEEEK there isn't one!

Holy bejesus! Note to self: equip horror with lighting resistance ring next time!

When in doubt put Elemental Armor on SC's.

(Con4, 10 earth 5 fire)

It's way overpowered, and you avoid a lot of otherwise dire surprises.

It's a good thing Doom Horrors don't have a body slot, so no Elemental Armor for them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Was some bad luck there I think - as I understand it, the blood vengeance means the orb lightning had as much chance of frying the mage casting it as it did of killing the doom horror.

Pretenders tend to have high MR, so it would've been lucky if the Blood Vengeance had worked.

also, if you REALLY want to overpower a D.Horror, empower it one or 2 levels of nature, and make it cast the elemental resistances spell and personal rege. Then equip it with something cool...
