View Full Version : National Anthems/ or bands
Stab West

I was playing around with this idea about having a National Anthem for each nation or at least a national band and here's what I've come up with so far:
As far as Anthems go I only found one that really fits it's an obvious one for R'lyeh is The Thing That Should Not Be by Metallica.
For national bands I came up with these:
Ermor - Megadeth
Jotunheim - They Might Be Giants
Atlantis - God Lives Underwater
Pangaea - Deep Forest
Let's see what else we can come up with!

Cute thread if we can keep people from just putting their Favorites. Something where the band name fits, and they arent TOO unknown. Hmmmm....
Something "heavy metal" for Ulm?
Armored Saint? Metallica? Armor of God?

Cthulhu Dawn by Cradle of Filth suits R'lyeh far better. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
In The Raven-Haunted Forests Of Darkenhold, Where Shadows Reign And The Hues Of Sunlight Never Dance by Bal-Sagoth is perfect for Carrion Woods Pangaea.
Blind Guardian's Another Holy War for Marignon.

Fukai Mori by Do As Infinity would be a perfect anthem for the regular Pangaea or even Man.

For Caelum, Nirvana's Polly
For Hoburgdorf, Rastaman Vibration
For R'lyeh, Fish Heads
For C'tis, anything by Jesus Lizard
For Abysia, Prodigy's Fire
For Man, She. Damn, that's lame of me
For Machaka, Witchdoctor
For T'ien C'hi, Kung Fu Fighting
For Mictlan, Harry Belafonte, for no reason

Ulm - Metallica One

That's a hard task to find something matching particularly well. In most cases either theme or music or lyrics don't match. So far I've found only the following:
Pangaea - Korpiklaani (korpiklaani=woods clan), whole album Spirit of the Forest fits well, if one song, probably With Trees
Marignon - Agalloch - Kneel to The Cross
Vanheim - Bathory - Blood On Ice - "The Revenge Of Blood On Ice"
Ulm should probably be something heavy, but nothing seems to suit in particular, the best I can think of is Warlock's "True as Steel".
Somebody suggested Megadeth for Ermor which seems fitting, though many black/doom metal bands would fit too. I've thought about Pentitent's "Into the Great Inferno" and "Entering the Gate" which have very different sound, but probably suit better.
For other nations I don't even have a clue what would fit really well...

Jotunheim and Ulm should have something with Britney Spears... because I REALLY hate them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

For the Marignish Inquisition: Running Wild's "Dragonmen" or "Genesis".
For R'lyeh, the perfect anthem would be Garden Of Delight's "Realm Of Chaos"... (with such classic lines like: "Cthulhu beckons me... he beckons me... I can't dream at night alone...") Iä! Iä! Too bad noone but me ever seemed to have heared of them.
Machaka: Since most europeans can't distinguish african and indian music anyway, just get the Spiritchaser from Dead Can Dance and play through it.
I like Bathory for Vanheim and Metallica's One for Ulm.
Ermor: Sisters Of Mercy's Temple Of Love. No, really. Listen to it while playing Soulgate or Ashen Empire.
-- edit: Shameful misspelling of a favourite band of mine...

I tend to listen to albums/bands rather than particular songs - a few seemed appropriate:
C'tis - Thy Serpent/'Swampsong' by Kalmah
Mictlan - 'Blood Ritual' or 'Ceremony of Opposites' by Samael (Lord Belial or Belphegor works here as well)
Ermor - 'Cause of Death' by Obituary
Marignon - Cathedral (Anathema might work)
Abysia - In Flames
Jotunheim - They Might be Giants !!!???
Caelum - 'Blizzard Beasts' by Immortal
Pangaea/Man - Pantheist/'Forest Poetry' by Ildjarn/Carpathian Forest/In the Woods

I'd say the perfect band for R'lyeh is
obvious: the 60's group "H.P Lovecraft".
And yes, it is named after the author.

Mmh. I constantly switch through my CD's while playing different nations. Holst' Planets went with Pythyium, and it's a nigood fit. Apocalyptica, goes with just about every battle, but I like'em especially with ermor or abysia.
Therion's ... darn forget the name, latest album goes very well with Ulm (Schwarzalbenheims Gewürm ...)or Hoburg Alliance.
"Sign of the Hammer" album by Manowar goes very well with Jotunheim, Though my favorit for them is definately Finntroll!
With pangea I went with Loreena Mckennitt and Blind Guardian.
Man is also Blind Guardian or Avantasia
Arcos ... In Extremo or Corvus Corax
But to any faction I hear a lot of movie soundtracks like LotR, The Crow, 13th Warrior, Gladiator, Henry V, Conan or Warlock (I)just to name a few.

There're surprisingly many mentions of various metal bands here. Is it that people associate Dominions with metal music or is it that dominions players only listen to metal?
Stab West

It would apear that Metal is the preferred sound of Dom2 players. I also like that you can change the audio settings to play metal during the battle sequences.

Well, half the Dominions II players are hardcore wargamers, while the other half are crazed fantasy freaks. Most fantasy freaks I know (at least the males) sooner or later make one contact or another with Metal. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I am more in line with Dark Wave, but that's probably my personal preference of dark fantasy things. Ah well. With this little demographic european insight, back to the topic.

Pangea, Man - Enya
Marignon - Solyma
also Pangea - Therion "Via Nocturna"

I'm way behind on the heavy metal knowledge - the only one I can think of is Wheels Of Steel by Saxon, for Iron Faith Ulm.
Enya is a good suggestion - maybe a Clannad album for LoT?

Well, I'd prefer the Primus Version of the Thing that Should Not Be - they are still making worthwhile music http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
And:
Pan Carrion Woods - Return of the Giant Hogweed
Pan other - Bulls on Parade
Ermor undead Versions - Children of the Grave (especially with a Lich Queen)
Pythium SC or Ctis - Baby Snakes
Thilock_Dominus
August 27th, 2004, 03:33 PM
Ermor: Cradle Of Filth - Her ghost in the fog.
Pangea: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons.
Man: Sorten Muld
Ironhawk

Ummmm... my musical taste isnt that varied, so I cant make suggestions there....
BUT
I do think it would be abo****ely hilarious to have National Band units for each of the nations! Imagine your hordes of infantry and SCs all lined up ready for war. And then a handful of musicians up front jamming out your anthem before the fight. Hahhaha

Uh, Vynd, a great many Dom2 players weren't born when most of your suggestions were released - so its hardly fair to chastise them for failing to make them on their own http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

You're assuming I was? I might have been 2 or 3 years old when the most recent of my suggestions came out, but I wasn't exactly buying the albums. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I reserve the right to criticize people for not knowing the classics! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I must second (and even third) the suggestion of Enya for Man. Aldebaran may be fitting for the Lost of the Tuathas, or perhaps even I Want Tomorrow (the lyrics do not quite fit though).
Loreena McKennit might be good for standard Man as well (The Mystic's Dream?). For one reason, I would say Bjork's Vespertine album for Caelum (Harm of Will for example).
Oh, and In Memory of Trees (Enya) for something closer to an incantation or prayer from Pangaea.
I couldn't say anything about the other nations; my musical knowledge isn't too wide, especially when it comes to metal.

Just remembered this thread while hearing the perfect national anthem for Ermor: Gothminister - March of the Dead
And for Caelum "Warriors" from Freedom Call would be very fitting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
At night, high up in the heavens we fight
Faster than lightning we strike
Like fires that rip through the night
Surrounded by light
Raging thunder in the skies
Time has come to sacrifice
We are warriors,
born from the light
An army for freedom,
defenders of life
Warriors,
euphoria will rise
Returning from darkness
we bury all lies
The knights,
outcast and lost in the skies
Returning to heaven denied
Louder than thunder we ride
Ready to strike
Call for us and you will survive
Follow us to paradise
[Chorus]
Here we are,
the warriors of light
Here we are,
we came from the night
Here we are,
the warriors of light
Here we are, euphoria will rise.
Perfectly fitting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif.
Ulm: Nightwish - Kinslayer (since Ulm is kinda atheistic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Another Ulm Suggestion: Sengir - Cry before the War (because in vanilla you have to cry if you have to go to war with Ulm http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. And BF Ulm has Sengir Vampires http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I tend to choose soundtrack by contents rather than track title.
Marignon:
Conquest Of Paradise
Hispanola
(Soundtrack from movie "1492", by Vangelis) Seriously, listen to them and tell me they don't fit.
Diabolical Faith Marignon
Devilred (Moonspell)
Mephisto (Moonspell)
Ermor
Bones of the night
Mortuary
(two above are Planescape:Torment soundtrack by Mark Morgan)
R'lyeh
The official band of R'lyeh is (old) Delerium. Has some really dark and oppressive ambients.
Brainwaves
Sphere
Relics
Rise Above
Iron Faith Ulm
Dungeon Keeper intro (by Mark Morgan, again)
Descent to the Cerberus (Quake 2 music from first level, by otherwise crappy band Sonic Mayhem)
Black Forest Ulm
Julie umira kazdou noc (XIII Stoleti)
Evangelium (XIII Stoleti)
A Poisoned Gift (Moonspell)
Perverse...almost religious (intro) (Moonspell)
Awake (Moonspell)
Pythium
Death Smiles At Us All
The Slave Who Became A Gladiator
Barbarian Horde
(Gladiator soundtrack by Hans Zimmer; can't be beaten here)
