Begin first ever stream-of-consciousness bug report:

Browsing Star Control II shrine. Dominions 2 craving. Run Dominions 2, Version 2.11, CherryScales, Machaka vs. 4 AIs on Aran. Play. Do well. Do not so well. Play some more. Blink. No CD in drive. Blink. Exit application, restart. Game still works. Blink. Insert GTA III: Vice City CD, restart computer, run Dominions 2. Game still works.

Blink.

Not that I'm complaining, or anything.

Dom2 does not require the CD to play. There's no useless, annoying CD check, and that would be mostly impossible anyway, if anyone was going to ever be able to run a Dom2 server. The CDkey works better than any stupid Safedisc/SecuROM crap anyway, which only causes problems for people who actually bought the game.

However, the CD check wouldnt affect hosts servers. The CD-key isnt even checked for host server. Thats why I can use my one CD to install both my Windows machine to play with, and my linux machine to host with.

Wouldn't it be also hard to implement a CD-check for all four OS where Dominions runs on?

I always presumed that the missing CD-check was another big benefit of a Multi-OS game. Its so annoying to swap CDs all the time...

When traveling, I'll typically leave the CD in favor of a second battery.

And even when you do CD checks leave the CD running too long, wasting precious power.
