I found something interesting in one of my games. One of the AIs mopped up an indie province, and killed someone named Solaris. They got some items that promptly were liberated.
Here is what the items were:
Sun Sword - Berserking + 0, Blessed, Area 1 holy fire
Damage 15 (x3 vs undead.demon)
Attack 3
Defence 3
Length 2
Sun helmet - Magic resistance + 5
Protection 4
Defence 0
Encumberance 0
Sun armour - Awe + 3, reduces APs
Protection 22
Defence -5
Encumbrance 5
Welp, now I have some questions:
What is SOlaris, exactly, and how often is he found?
Are there many similar special independants?
Is there a reason that ressource costs are listed with the items? Can these be produced by some race?

Solaris is a indie paladin hero, and he is unique and very rare (only found him once in several months of playing). Items cannot be produced by anybody, but I think they can be wished for (haven't tried this). The cost is there probably because it's one of the attributes for the game to consider it as an item.

Those items cannot be forged by anyone, but they can be wished for (even if I suppose they're pretty weak to waste a wish, except the sword that could results worthy in certain cases)

There are a bunch of unique independents. A ice druid with around 40 jotunheim giants, there is also always a unique magic water site in that province. A earth mother and fertility god with some vine critters. Couple of sorceresses where one has a unique magic cape.
There also a lot of less spectacular unique independants. Two wizards gaurded by militia and a jotunheim giant. A hydromancer with a sea father and iniate of the deep and bunch of atlantian spearman.

Starke the Ice Druid is the one you really want to kill, because the Vial of Frozen Tears is really quite nice. Thing is, I think you actually have to kill them to get the item. Not hard with Solaris, but Starke is another matter.

I seem to run into the 'wizard/giant' province quite a bit, actually.

I think you forgot to mention that the Lord of Fertility in the unique province is completely naked, no shirt, no shoes, no fig leaf.

Some of those aren't 'unique' per se. I think the Earth Mother/R-rated Lord of Fertility combo will always show up in a province that has that one magic site. Can't think of it right now. Let's a nature mage summon Dryads or something, but it's bugged.

But the hydromancer/seafather always spawn with the same names and equipment. So they are unique.

Wonder if they could get in trouble with that in the USA.
The Lord of the Wild has also something dangling between his legs.
