View Full Version : Elemental Attack vs. Resistance

Suppose I hit someone with e.g. a Fire Brand weapon and they have fire resistance. Does the fire resistance negate any of the "normal" damage (i.e. strength + weapon damage value + 2d6) or does the fire resistance negate only the special fire effect of the weapon? Is there additional normal damage caused if the unit has no resistance (or a susceptibility) to fire, or just the effect of being ignited?
I guess I just dont understand the operation of elemental weapons vs. resistances very well. Thanks in advance http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Only the bonus fire is affected by the fire resistance. You will not become immune to the actual base damage of being physically smacked with a sword merely because the sword is also fiery and you are immune to fire.

So, the only thing that additional fire will do is set the target on fire if it survives the physical damage? But even this is not mandatory, only a probability, is it not?
What about "small area fire" and similar weapons? Does anyone know what amount of damage small area fire does, and is it dealt on top of physical damage? I assume that only the unit that actually got hit gets the physical damage, while the rest of the units in a square get only fire damage, is that right? I've been using these quite a bit, but I can't say I have the details on how they work figured out completely.

That's how it works, yes. I don't happen to have the stats on the area damages, though.

Maybe somebody else will have the info on how the area damages work?

That's what I was confirming, that this is how area damage works: Man hits takes weapon damage, everyone else gets flash damage.
