Being able to study games played by some of the masters, would probably go a long way towards helping players better understand the game.

Is there any way to observe games in progress or
to watch replays of sorts of the games?

Yes, but it's more fun to learn by doing, and develop your own strategies and styles. Where's the fun in borrowing someone else's formulas?

Ok. I had tons of fun playing the game and learning all the stuff in it bit by bit for months and months, before ever playing multi-player. As always, different players want and enjoy different things.
