I play CW more then the other themes and there was one game where, with the ettin hero, I put 3 of those shields that toss lightning bolts, 2 of the spirit helmets, the ribcage, and other garbage. Maybe not the most efficient 'SC' design but damn fun to watch.

So if you ask about funny heroes: Get a Nataraja with 4 Shields http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Best are the air magics weightless shields. Now put the nata in the front and a lot of archers behind him http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Or if you need a killer then give the nataraja 4 fire swords. Or for defense reasons 4 ice swords http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And you can still equip a armor, helm, boots and 2 misc http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

A strong combattant rather than a super combattant, but one of my pet Favorites was Podarkes the heroic Cave Drake, equipped with bracers and a flying carpet, who would swoop down on unsuspecting enemy rear areas with a squad of elite Ulmish troops.
I also rather liked my cursed indie priest who won the deathmatch tournament and was decked out in magic armor and equipment and wielded the champion's trident.
And my black knight prophet who was doomed and afflicted terribly, but was eventually given the chalice, healed, re-equipped, and assigned to my army of the doomed and afflicted.

Always liked the arch demon with the magic sickle who gets 1 fire gem per turn, equippping him with 2 fever fetisches and that + fire helm and a elemental staff. always fun to watch if you researched some evocation
the other combo i like is a fallen angel decked with a ring of regen and lots of reinvigoration items casting phoenix pyre, blood vengeance and having 2 bloodslaves on him.

I played one game with pyth serpant cult, n9,e4. as soon as i researched gift of reason, i cast it on one of my hydras and then mad it a prophet.
In my dom it was around 360 hps and could regen 65 hps a turn, plus all of the other hydra garbage.

I just finished a game where I had one of the earth lords above 700 hp... His defense was also 33 at that point, and there was just something amusing about the idea of him up against 1200 little undead guys, slowly but surely working his way through them, completely confident that he couldn't possibly be hurt.

I really like the Demon Lord that gets a free blood slave every turn. He's a badass by himself and the blood slave, while not incredibly useful, is fun to play around with.

Not exactly an SC, but one time I had a fort with a lab under seige, but not much defending it. So I gave a standard indie commander Winter Bringer, Sandals of the Crane and Marble Armour for added insurance. It actually worked rather well, teleporting around casting falling frost, the armour helping in the case of an unlucky teleport.

An Great Enchantress buffed with power from Wish, Ember, the Forbidden Light, some various nice equipment. She gets attacked by a horror, she laughs "haha horror", wipes it out in one hit. Attacks 700-ish sized AE-Ermor army by herself. "Haha Ermor". Kills most of it alone.
My next wish is to try out the Ark "ie., the Nazi Melter". Probably with Marignon and their sacred knights and flagulents. Kills, deseases, and blinds - no soup for you!

Sebadoh the vampire lord. The Aegis, a Shield of Gleaming Gold, Kurgi's Gift, Boots of Quickness, Awesome Presence, a Lucky Pendant, and a Horned Helmet. Hard. Core.
Update: On a related note, I kinda like it when certain commanders get afflictions. Gives 'em personality.
Updated update: By "SC", I mean "perfectly viable Soul Vortex casting, lifedraining SC chassis which instead opts to headbutt enemy armies into submission". I can only imagine what he'da been like with Heroic Quickness and a pair of Chi Sandals.

I once went a bit insane and gave a Succubus the Tartarian Chains, a shield (probably either a shield of gleaming gold), a wraith crown, probably boots of stone if they get foot slots, antimagic and luck talismans. Amon Hotep would be even cooler.
I've played with insanely-equipped Tartarians, in particular the guaranteed-E4 cyclops, w/ something like Magebane, Barrier, wraith crown, bone armor / Asfetik / Monolith / robe-of-invulnerability, boots of quickness or winged shoes, antimagic talisman, Chalice. att/def aren't that high, but they have high-enough hp that they don't care that much except against other SCs.
Limne, Queen of Elemental Water, can be brutal due to the extreme regeneration. Use a high-prot armor and a decent weapon, with Wave Breaker being extremely thematic.
A Queen of Elemental Air with Tempest is also quite thematic, and unlike most flying SCs can still fly past the enemy's front line even if they've got a Staff of Storms.

The only thing you accomplished was feebleminding him, as the Gift of Kurgi only grants Flying and Ethereal (and the ability to send horrors, but that's irrelevant), which are already innate abilities of a Vampire Lord!

it gives luck and +8 defense, but, yeah, not the chassis I would drop it on.

For fun, duh.
My Ice Devils were already handling the whole "winning" thing for that(SP) game. Honestly, no amount of defense skill justifies taking away a vampire's lifedrain.
Then again, +8 defense is nothing to scoff at, and regeneration is cumulative.
Still bloody stupid to give the thing to a BBBDDD mage, but it seemed appropriate at the time.

There isn't anything out there with two sets of boots, is there? I don't recall whether or not that was a modding option.

I am having fun right now playing around with the Djini from the Magic Lamp artifact. I can't quite remember his name.
He comes with 5f/5a/3e/3s for magic paths, which is better than just about anything else you can summon and makes for a lot of nice buffing spells. Plus he's naturally flying, ethereal, and trampling. The Last could be a bad thing for some SCs, but he's also 0 encumbrance.
Sadly, his noncorporeal state means that he lacks feet or body item slots. Anyway, I gave him a ring of regeneration and a bunch of protection and defense boosting items, and he's been quite entertaining to watch. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
