they are very nice http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
you should try blood Lach http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif there you get vampire counts they are immortal too but even a bit more useful than the demiliches . and they can summon 1 vampire / turn which is also immortal .
a main advantage of the demiliches is ihmo that they are death 4 so they can cast drain life without items/empowerment.
the vampire counts have death 3 blood 3 instead so they can't cast drain life without items but because they summon vampires you can mass quite big numbers of them and they are flying !

Of course, if you have much blood slaves They can also cast the summoning spell and you get even more of them faster. I read how someone, I think Norfleet, commented on how powerful hundreds of Vampires can be in your own dominion...

yeah i didn't try it myself so far but i believe norfleet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
even if you loose you can throw them on your enemies again and again . they will always loose some of their units and if you have high dominion normally the enemy needs some turns to turn it negative so you have several sure tries http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
@ norfleet a specific question : the basic weapon of the vampires / vc's is life drain . how does this work on golems and other lifeless beeings ?
do the vampires still damage but don't get back life or do they no damage and are almost useless against golems and so on ?

It's Vampire Lords who are Death-3, Blood-3 and can summon one vampire for an action every turn. Vampire Counts are Death-2, Blood-2, can't summon vampires except the ordinary way (casting the blood summoning spell), and automatically attract thralls as cannon fodder.

Legion of Wights _is_ strong (as it's a Conj-9 with a non-trivial death level requirement and gem cost, it should be), but as with many superheavy infantry units, beware of things like mass lightning attacks (e.g. Caelian fly-by with Wrathful Skies, or eventually Shimmering Fields, or the Pythium quickened orb-lightning communion abuse) as lightning ignores their otherwise very nice armor. Area fire attacks can also be bad, although wide-area fire tends to be more armor piercing instead of negating.
