But ! how bloody annoying is it when your mages cast spells that are tottally inapropriate...

I was just enjoying an opening game as Mictlan, had a nice army of mages and my water mage cast breath of winter, killing my prophet, a hero and the 2 pyromancers that I had with them as artillary.

Bah, you should be able to tell a mage not to cast certain spells. Or at least have a routine in the AI to not wipe out friendly forces.

Will friendly troops in the vicinity catch on fire from summoned fire elementals, assuming they are not fire resistance.

Friendly troops, including the caster itself, can also be killed by poorly-planned spells. You will all too frequently see the AI become victim to such things. It'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Spiro <font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I feel your pain. Believe me. I now don't even put mages that can cast the spell into battle with other troops, further increasing my general disdain for water (clams I know and quickness, but not much else)

According to Johan in this thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=74;t=001827#000006) the AI is working correctly. It's supposed to cast breath of winter if no troops are nearby. I don't quite understand the explanation when it completely ignores friendly troops, but in that thread it doesn't seem like Illwinter considers it to be "broken".
