I just wondered: Do the Tuatha and the Van have any common mythological background? I have searched a bit on the web and got different results.

The Vans of norse mythology were a paralell set of gods alongside with the Asars. Frej, Freja and Njord are Van stock, wheras most of the other well known Nordic Gods are Asar. The Tuatha de Danan are Irish heroes and Gods (means people of the godess Danan or some such). The mythologies have some similarities. In dom 1 days there was an unarticulated idea that magic beings spoken of in the Avalon blurbs were Vans, since at the time there were no implemented Tuathas. Although Man was allways intended to be British/Celtic themed and Vanheim is most decidedly Nordic. There is no historic reason to connect Vans with Tuathas, as far as I know, except some general similarities between many of the European mythologies.
