Ok, since Edi didn't respond yet, I'm asking anybody who has experience in map-making for their opinion. I found two hi-res maps of Warhammers "Old World" on the web. Do you think their quality and size is good enough to generate a Dom2 map on them?

The smaller one would fit a small map, the large one would fit a "regular" map.
Atleast IMO...
Though you'd have to get someone who knows Warhammer well to make a good Warhammer map.

Well, size-wise they are fine. But these monochrome maps would need a lot of work to turn into something worthy of Dom. They do have potential. They're certainly far better than the Ultima maps from yesterday's thread. But (IMO) the work involved in making these maps pretty is probably better spent playing around with DomMap. (I'm starting to sound like a broken record with regards to map-making.)

I didn't respond because I was offline for a week, Reverend. Took a holiday in Italy.

I can take a look at these maps, but if they're monochrome, then it's probably a lost cause with regard to amount of work required, as Arryn says. I've got WHFRP and the map in that just doesn't work well for Dom2. A colored one would be perfect, but I'm not sure such a thing exists.

The smaller, tri-colored (not monochrome) map looked fine to me; at least equal to some of the existing maps, both in aesthetics and gameplay (Britania is a pretty map, for instance, but bites for gameplay because of the colors, etc).

Yes, the tri-colored is better, it also covers more terrain. It's difficult to find ANY hi-res warhammer maps, I know there is a map of the complete warhammer world out there, but I couldn't find it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Hmmm... does anyone have a virtual copy of the map they sent out for free with White Dwarf when they were promoting the Generals Compendium? As i recall that map, while only being a very small slice of the warhammer world, did have provinces already established as well as cities and special provinces.

The recent warhammer based map from Liga looks great. I do notice the map has lots of castles which could cause confusion for new players if the province has no actual castle.
Either the pictures of these castles should be removed from the map or whoever develops the map will be placing lots of provinces with starting castles. Another idea... we can also always hope that the next patch will allow for a #patrol command where independents can actually patrol a province as well as defend.

Not yet, I've been busy with a crapload of other things, so if somebody else wants to go ahead and start, feel free. I've got no time right now to do it, but that might change in two or three weeks.
