Just wanted to let those who are interested know that I'm making progress on the mod but it is much slower than first anticipated.

Currently, I'm still developing maps. Each character has a different starting location so I am developing the map connections to ensure a smooth transision depending on which character is played. Slow going. All of the hobbit starting areas up to Bree are complete and I'm now working on the other characters.

I'm hoping to have a demo that will allow you to play the game up to Rivendell by the end of next week. Possibly the following week.

Here's hoping.

take your time, patience is something DO fans really need anyway http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif . Hmm, I envision DO WW2 to have a playable demo a few years from now or something http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif , anyway, good luck, and looking forward to trying it out!

Good News!!

I've got a working demo for LOTR! There are still some minor tweaks to take care of and events/quests to add, but it currently is playable and seems to be working fine.

I expect to release the demo middle of next week (around Sept 15-16)

The Demo has 2 characters you can play; Frodo and Samwise. And will take you from Hobbiton to Rivendell. My intention is to get feedback from you guys before finishing the full Version of a Fellowship of the Ring Module.

This module will be closer to the books than the movies, but because of the game mechanics, some aspects will be one or the other and some will be neither.

Stay tuned. It's coming.

oh, and if anyone has pics, sounds or music that I can incorperate, please PM me. ty.

great to hear, about graphics&sounds, as I said in another post, you can try civilization 2, http://www.apolyton.net/civ2, it has a few LOTR mods too, not perfect, but I use it for graphics for the WW2 mod http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Closer to the book than the movies.. that must have been a lot of work.

Good news indeed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

You can say that again. It's amazing how much of what you remember from a book can be 'overwritten' by what you saw in a movie...

A big round of apologies to everyone waiting for this mod.

I spent the Last week in a hotel that was having a serious issue with it's ISP service. A whole week with no internet!!! not sure how I survived....

So the release has been delayed. Expect early next week instead http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

It's cool. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I'm just glad that 'someone' is still interested in the game and making new modules.

I thought about trying my hand at one myself but wouldn't know where to start http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Came upon a strange issue with the mod. It's at the stage now where it should be playable. And with about 30 min. worth of stuff it 'should' be ready for release.

But, for some unknown reason, whenever I try to use a custom-made key on a custom locked door, it gives me a strange error.

"Access error c:\mybv\do\prog\SMsounds" or some such. Can't recall the whole thing, but it does pop up HUNDREDS of windows with this exact same error and they don't stop continually popping up unless I Ctrl+Alt+Del the DO program.

So, just so everyone knows, I'm into so deep debugging of the mod.

I get such errors once in a while too, for various reasons, mostly because I tried to do something that was not allowed, or was not yet implemented, can't really give a fix, you'll have to figure it out yourself http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif . Wish you the best of luck!

Hmmm.. weird.. does it give an error when you replace it with an existing type of key? I've used some custom locked doors without any trouble, but only with key types that where also in the stock game (brass key)

*reads message again* It seems to give an error that's related to the sound played upon opening or closing the door. are you sure you have typed the name of the soundfile that should be used correctly? I think it should be in the appropriate terrain.txt file in one of the entries of the opened and closed door terrains. (make sure the filename you want to be played is fully typed out, with the .wav extension included)

I've checked the spelling and it appears fine. I don't have the .wav extention but neither do the stock doors. I'll try it and see if that fixes it.

Thanks.

Any luck with repairing the bug?
I'm not sure it is a sound related problem, but I remember getting an error like that in a simillar situation, but it's some time ago and I could be wrong.

CIV3 is awesome. I have been playing that line of games since the first one. I know how it is to get sucked into that game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
