View Full Version : Leaders and units - who casts what on whom?

Hi,

I was wondering if a leader casts support spells on his troops primarily or if it targets any group?

Let me give you an example: A Coral Queen commands 2 Groups of units, and a Deep Seer commands 1 set of units.
In combat, does the Coral Queen casts Fanaticism on one of the 2 sets she commands?
And if so what group is first selected?
Or does she target any Groups of units?

Any ideas?

Thanks

The latter. As soon as you enter combat, whoever 'owns' a squad counts for absolutely nothing until the battle is over.

This is a poor example as Fanaticism affects all friendly squads on the battlefield http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. Your Coral Queen will cast Sermon of Courage on whoever needs it.

Depends on a lot of factors. Usually it's the one that'll benefit the most from the buff, or the one with the toughest units.

About that I have a problem ...

I want to make my Wight fly ... so I start them really close to a leader who could cast flight ( I give him 5 cast flight order) and the wight are in hold-and-attack-rearmost

... but my leader don't cast flight and cast soemthing else ... are teh undead not affected by such spells ?

I haven't add an opportunity to test it so far, but I believe Flight was fixed in 2.13.

liga, were you fighting in a Storm? I don't think Flight would work then and the AI would probably recognize this and cast something else instead.

Hummm... There is no way to make sure a specific group is targeted. What goes into defining who is the target for a spell? (offensive or supportive spells).

The spell casting AI takes numbers, HP, protection, resistances, distance, precision of caster and other factors in account. Offensive spells are targeted where the most probable damage will occur, defensive spells where the most number of strong units will be buffed. I'm not sure how numbers and strength of troops compare in this case.
