Edit: Nevermind, I thought Boots of the Planes were broken, but it's just a minor odd issue. Nothing really to see here.

Actually you don't need a point an astral to use these boots. All you need are legs to put them on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I often give boots of planes to my banelord, whom I equip and use as SC-killer.

Do you need to be in a province that has a lab?

Haha, I figured it out. If you go to "Cast ritual spell" and click on "Item Spell - teleport" it says the ritual is too complex. But if you just click on "Item Spell - teleport" from the commander command list, it works fine. That's interesting. And now I feel dumb.

Like all items that come with builtin spells, there are 2 ways to activate the Boots of the Plane (best artifact with the Gate Stone, IMO).

(1) Commander menu (spacebar) -> Cast Ritual Spell -> Item Spell: Teleport

Also available thru the 'C' shortcut. This one requires a lab and an astral mage. Don't use it, never.

(2) Commander menu (spacebar) -> Cast Item Spell: Teleport

This one works for everyone everywhere.

Heh. I've thought an item was broken also. It'd be nice if the interface was fixed so that the spells worked regardless of which way the spell was activated, either as a ritual or via the commander menu.

It's a very useful item.

However I've find it more useful for a safer use, like teleporting a priest in some colonies get by paradropping stuff to build temple (or a mage to lab there) or that sort of stuff.

You are forgeting the fact that boots give thier owner the Horror mark Cohen. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif You might be safer killing helpless SCs with your own banelord/SC, who was was specificaly equiped to deal with them, than with you little priest or mage attracting attention of horrors, in which case you'll lose both commander and great unique artifact.

I would take SC-killing duty anyday, while wielding Magebane, rather than haveing to face Horrors with single priest over the boots which are too big for him to fill... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
